Impacto Deportivo Manny Report
By Tim Dierkes [December 21 at 10:53pm CST]

According to a report in the Dominican newspaper Impacto Deportivo, the Yankees are on the verge of signing Manny Ramirez to a three-year, $75MM deal.  The report says negotiations are advanced and an announcement would take place Monday or Tuesday.  If true, this would be an incredible scoop.  However, there is reason for skepticism.  The money and timing just don't seem right.

A look at Impacto Deportivo's recent history:

    * 11/24/08: Reported the Braves as the mystery team in on Rafael Furcal, offering four years and $52MM.  The offer was inaccurate, but they did nail the mystery team.
    * 11/12/08: Correctly scooped the Damaso Marte signing.
    * 2/21/08: Incorrectly indicated the White Sox reached an agreement with Bartolo Colon.  Also incorrect on a similar rumor involving the Royals.
    * 1/21/08: Correctly scooped the Octavio Dotel signing.
    * 11/18/07: Correctly scooped the Luis Castillo signing.

Would certainly be a bit of a shock.  Not convinced Manny would be worth any where near 75 million, but you can bet he would hit ridiculously well against us, as he would likely carry a large grudge.

Not really sure where the Yanks would play Manny...Damon, Matsui, Nady in the OF (plus swisher, melky). I guess you could go with Damon, Matsui, Manny, but that has to be the worst defensive OF in all of baseball.

Don't be shocked if this happens. They'd have a great offense, after signing Manny, but I'm still not sold on CC as an ace in the AL east, Burnett spending a season healthy or Phillip Hughes in general.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I'd puke if this happened.

The funniest part about the Manny saga is that from the start the Red Sox never did anything to antagonize him - ever. I can imagine him coming back to Boston wearing pinstripes, knocking the cover off the ball, super motivated to get back at the team that wronged him. What did the Red Sox or their fan base ever do besides give him as much leniency as any guy who has ever played professional baseball? If he had just shut up and hit like he was perfectly capable of doing, Boston probably would have picked up both of his $20 million options.

What a bummer this would be...from linchpin of my favorite team  to one of my two most despised franchises in sports.  Talk about a shot to the gut.

And yeah, T43, if he does end up a Yankee, I think it's safe to expect him to OPS approximately 5.000 in the 19 games against the Sawx...ugggggh....

What the Red Sox did, well what Theo did, was tell the whole world on National tv that they wanted to trade him.  That is what set off all the yapping in the press and then his eventual trade.  I think Theo did that on purpose to set Manny off to get the fans against Manny and then give him a great excuse to finally get rid of him.  Theo knew Manny was not going to keep quiet after he went public the way he did (remember going public is what Theo was always against, except when it benefits him (remember the gorilla suit?).

It would be, if all three were ever healthy at the same time.

Has anyone seen the ads for the  " Last Days of Manny ", as recalled by Sean McAdam and CHB, among others? I'm boycotting this program on general principle. It's over with. Please, let's stop dwelling on it. We have Jason Bay now. Manny's gone. We don't need to reflect on what happened like it was 9/11 or something. The horse is dead. Just stop.

As for Manny on the Yanks, I'm actually for this. It'll add a new dimension to the rivalry( I have no idea what that means. I just thought it had a nice ring). As for the future, which Manny shows up in the Bronx? .290, my knee hurts Manny, or 1200 OPSing motivated, my knee is fine Manny?

I think that would be the worst fit for Manny possible. Then again maybe he dislikes the Red Sox to make it work. I don't see this turning out too well for the Yankees.

Didn't Manny say that he hated the "fish bowl" of Boston?  I'm sure NY would be much better...

Especially when their tossed salad of mercenaries turns out to be a bad mix.

They can have Manny too.

I still like the make up of the Sox team better.
Yup

I think the best fit for Manny is with the Angels.  He would fit in perfectly there at DH.  It's the Angels only hope to finally beat the Sox in the playoffs.

Socia is like the biggest throwback manager ever, the last thing he wants his manny ramirez. i think thats a place that many would NEVER fit in.

I guess you didn't hear.  Just last week Socia admitted that he would love to have Manny and dismissed the notion that he can't handle difficult players.  He said that he only had a problem with one player his whole career and doesn't think he would have a problem dealing with Manny... and I agree.  I think Manny would fit in great at DH.  Manny will play every day if he was a DH.  I remember when he was filling in for Ortiz he loved it. It was when Ortiz came back and he had to play the field again that he started acting like he didn't want to play every day.  But still, I think this "Manny doesn't want to play" stuff is overblown has he has played the most games of most Red Sox players over the last few years.
