Let's be real, guys. We love Perk but would trade him in a NY minute for Bynum. Bynum is far more talented.

I realise Bynum is a very gifted player, but Perk's defense, is streaks ahead of Bynum (RE; Bynum not being on the floor at the end of games for the lakers) and Perk's defense this year has been some of the best in the league.

If the team were in a rebuilding mode, then no question I would take Bynum for Perk. However on this team at present I think Perk would have a significantly bigger impact than Bynum would.

I mean Perk's inability to collect himself around the hoop without taking a dribble is pretty oafish.  He's a wonderful defender and he's continuing to get better but he doesn't exactly have control of all limbs.
On a Bynum note, do you guys even watch him play or do you watch the highlights? I'm out here in LA (regretfully) so I catch just about every lakers game.  I mean I'm sure you'll watch the Christmas day game, so check out that spin move he has.  A nice fluid shot and unreal hands, he's very much a rare combination of size and skill.  He really should play more, if Gasol and him got more touches they would be a much better team.  Thank God Kobe has got to get his stats.  I'm all for bashing lakers personally but the dude is putting up 13, 9, and almost 2 blocks in 29 minutes and hes doing it on 55% from the floor and 70% from the line, hes good.

And yet, his coach doesn't trust him in a close game at the end of the game. That is a big problem if you are the supposed 'savior' for the team. Celtics are supposed to think according to the hype that the Lakers and their fans have put on him that he is the difference. He is not the savior for the Lakers so far.

Well from the Laker's fan perspective they weren't far from coming into Boston with a 3-2 lead with their old team. Different series at that point. Of course I think game 6 left no doubt that the final outcome wasn't going to change last year.

The Lakers could improve enough to win the title. But Lamar Odom is going to have to come through for them off the bench. So far he hasn't been that good in his new role. Another concern for the Lakers. Kobe has been shooting poorly from deep, and he also looks a step slower to my naked eye.

He's played a lot of basketball the past year. I wonder how he will hold up by the end of the NBA season. It is a very good move by the Lakers to cut his minutes down some.

The Lakers also don't know there is no "I" in defense!

The first time they play hard for 48 minutes will be the first time...

Don't forget also Defense. Which seems to be severly slipping for the Lakers lately.

Yes, but they'll still be a good defensive team. They're just not a great one, which is why I think whoever between Cle/Bos (we'll meet in the ECF this year) will beat the Lakers.

He's only played about 3 years of basketball total since high school.  He's 21 years old, and plenty of teams go small at the end of games.  The fact that he wants to be on the court and competing is a good sign.  There is a lot wrong with lakers but bynum isn't the problem.  The only thing that I have heard on here is just random bashing of him.  Tell me what's the matter with his game, or something he doesn't do.  He is taking good shots in the flow of the offense, playing good defense and meshing with gasol.  But bring on the, "oh he sucks cuz hes tall and goofy and a laker"

Thats enough of a reason for me to hate him, sorry.
No but really, I could care less about his offense, is that really what the lakers need? no, and he doesnt understand that either. Perk knows his role, bynum does not. I could care less about his spinning moves that you speak of...The lakers need a phsyical banger who gets after it defensivly, which bynum does not, he's turning into a finnesse player just like everyone else on that team

But again the Lakers and fans have been calling him the savior and the reason they will win this year and why they lost last year. I agree he is young but the amount of hype he is gotten is ridiculous. The amount of from the media as well.  Which is probably why you see some 'bashing' of him. If Bynum isn't a problem why is he not playing at the end of games?

Nora:
Why didn't we play perk at the end of games last year?  Because we could put a line up out at the end of games that was a more challenging cover?  Basketball is about match ups, regardless of what I feel about Bynum he's the third best player on the team.  He does a lot of the same things that gasol does.  That's why it makes more sense to put shooters around the court, and the last thing Kobe needs at the end of games is another guy on the block occupying space.  The same way we would put Eddie House in at the end of games instead of Rondo, or Cassell for that matter.  If Bynum was on a different team, that wasn't as stacked as the lakers I have no doubt that he would be killing and his numbers support my argument.
Tattered on my sleeve:
Yeah spinning moves never help people.  Agility and gracefulness and being huge is what ruined the careers of Hakeem, Ewing and my all time favorite center Sabonis.

Really, I am more than interested for somebody to put up a reasonable argument as to why Bynum sucks. I don't know about these reports about him not playing defense, he plays hard.  He misses rotations and he picks up stupid fouls but what 21 year old center doesn't.  The fact that irrational los angelesites think he's the second coming should be irrelevant to a basketball fan.  I can say I hate the guy because he's a laker but I was always of the school of thought of giving a man credit when credit is deserved, regardless.

I dont wanna jinx, but right now all that "who's better, Bynum or Jefferson" discussion is looking pretty weak.

I have always said that Bynum's game is dunking (like Howard) while Jefferson's game is finesse around the basket (his 1000 moves when 5-8' away from the basket).  I'll take finesse over dunking anytime.

That statement proved that you do not watch any basketball.  Bynum has one of the most beautiful post games in the NBA and Howard is definitively the best center in the league right now. Spewing falsities like that are what make people hate celtic fans.

Bynum doesn't have a ton of post moves. He's getting better but usually he catches deep and then shoots quickly or dunks it. That isn't a bad thing though! His excellent hands and ability to put up the shot without a "power dribble" (ala Perk) is an advantage. He rarely backs his man down though.

Howard has added variety to his post game but for the most part still dunks. But to complain about that is like complaining Lebron doesn't have a great jump shot. So what? He's such a beast when he gets to the paint and catches deep it doesn't matter.

But he's young enough that he needs to get better. Eventually he won't be able to out jump everyone.

I think it's mainly Celts fans who are sarcastically calling Bynum a savior.  The fact is that the guy is a stud.  He is the future of the Lakers.  He is extemely long with great hands and touch, and he's so young.  He doesn't play huge minutes and stays within the offensive system.  The guy is one of the top few centers in the league right now, and he has the potential to improve tremendously.  He has a tool set that really no player in the league has- he's less athletic than Howard but he has far better touch.  And he moves much better than Yao.  I think he's like a hybrid of the two.

LOL @ the Bynum homer

No, the lakers dont need another finesse player, they need a banger, a defender, not another graceful guy who can score, what dont you understand about that? Theyre not asking him to be Hakeem, Ewing or Sabonis.
Bynum is an immature kid who doesnt know his role, point blank, and cares more about scoring gracefully, which obviously has made you a believer
