Heh... actually just a week ago I was zapping through games on the Euroleague TV, while focusing my attention on a great, great Tau vs. Joventut when, suddenly, on the Fenerbahce @ Roma (Jennings' team) broadcast, I see our friend Semih. I thought about writing a thread on the surprising event, but I didn't think anyone would be bored enough to care.

Anyway, he was injured at the start of the season, I believe I wrote that somewhere, and he came back just last week. He had a great chance of grabbing a bigger role when the season started, with two of the Fener bigs injured, including Asik, but his own injury took that opportunity away from him. He played 3 games so far, 2 to the Euroleague and 1 for the Turkish league, all of them Ls. I only watched him playing for like 2 minutes, but I have his last Euroleague game, a blowout at the hands of Tau, where he played some decent minutes (going for 10 points and 6 rebounds), recorded and I'll try to watch it in the weekend. Honestly, I'm not expecting to see something different from what he showed last season and that wasn't particularly inspiring from my perspective.

He's only played in two games.  His last game he went for 10 and 6 in 22 minutes his last game.  He only played 12 minutes his first game back from injury.  Here's a link to his tems home page.  http://www.euroleague.net/main/teams/showteam?clubcode=ulk

I actually just watched his last game in Euroleague.

He doesn`t look anything special, just an average Euro player. He looked kind of lost on defensive end, his rotations were pretty bad. He was better on offense, he has a nice touch and a good jumper for a big man.

I don`t really see NBA potential. But it is true that he is much better than POB, ATM. Well, that doesn`t say much but at least the guy knows how to play the game.

I guess he could be a third center on an NBA team but I wouldn`t expect much more from him. He does have an interesting on court personality, however, so he could be a fan favourite. :)

But you never know. Maybe he improves in course of one season like Marc Gasol, who went from average to dominant in 1 year.

He played about 15 minutes in a blow out win for Fener versus Joventut last Wednesday. Edit: 16:21 minutes, 5 pts, 2 rbs, 2 blks, 50%FG - http://www.euroleague.net/main/results/showgame?gamecode=92

Nothing really worth of note, scored from a couple of dunks, had a powerful block, some flashy passes, but most of the time he seemed lost out there, forgot to box out in some possessions, made some terrible passes and drives that led to turnovers and has an enervating tendency to roll off picks too early. Anyway, the game wasn't very demanding, Joventut was basically jacking up jumpers. He ran the floor well though, hustled up and down every time.

In my view, he's no more than a fringe rotational player of an Euroleague top team right now.

Sounds like he and POB will have quite a battle for that 15 roster spot next year...

Thanks for the update.  Sounds like Danny drafted him at #60 just for the pure option value of having rights for a tall player who might one day develop into something decent.  He probably won't, but you never know.

Anyone know how A. Miralles has been playing this year?

I'd be willing to bet this guy never puts on a Celtics jersey in the NBA.  he is nothing.

he'll be there for a few years...he's not NBA material right now, may never be.  file this under the "who cares?" section... :)

TP, thanks.  Looks like Miralles averages 5 pts and 2 boards a game. Pretty unimpressive stuff.  Let's hope Erden has more of an NBA career than Miralles....

In all fairness, he's averaging 4 boards. He's the backup to Perovic, who played (kind of... a grand total of 38 minutes on the floor) for the Warriors last season. I think Erden is actually more headed to be Miralles (a decent backup for a good team in Europe) than Perovic. The most disturbing thing about Erden is that he's basically the same player he was 4 years ago, just a little bigger.

Yeah, I think there were guys with better chances of making the NBA than him still available, but I guess Ainge's rationale was something like "a 7ft center with a 2% chance of being a backup in the NBA > a guard with a 5% chance of being a backup in the NBA". I can't say I disagree.
