From the Globe...The Red Sox' share of the players' pool was $6,139,119.30, with the value of each full playoff share $102,230.52. The Sox awarded 45 full shares, 15.7 partial shares, and 15 cash awards. I hope that they did not give Manny a share.  He quit on the team and does not deserve anything.

well the players and coachs vote shares, not the front office, and I think they will vote Manny a share based on his early season contributions and history in the clubhouse.

I have mixed feelings on a personal level, but since the players and staff vote shares, I doubt manny will be left out.

Mere pocket change for Manny, but it's the principle.

Yeah they voted on this a couple months ago.  I'm really amazed at the results...but the crazy thing is that Jason Bay receives less than Manny because Manny was in Boston longer.

Not crazy at all.  Manny was a Red Sox for 8? years and helped lead them to 2 World Series.  Jason Bay has been there for a few months and led them to nothing.

This is not about Manny and his 7 previous years, this is about whether he deserves a share for this year when he quit on the team and was traded because he no longer wanted to be in Boston.  Manny was rewarded for his past actions.  I don't believe he deserves anything for this year's actions.

thats what its about to me and you, people who only got to watch his interactions through the media.

Playoff shares are voted on by people who have worked with him and been around him for part or all of those 8 years.

Clearly, they have a diffrent opinion than you or I and voted that way.

Just seems like the player who actually played in the playoff games would get the bigger playoff game share.

Have you seen an actual list of who got what?  My guess was that both Manny and Bay each received partial shares.

yes they both got partial shares but Manny's was higher.  To me its like giving a Cy Young bonus to a guy who didn't win the award.

should joe johnson have gotten a playoff share the year we traded him?  We went to war with Rogers and Delk.

right, because he only played half the season for them. but the could have chosen not to vote him a share at all, which they didn't.

they must have had some feelings for his previous 8 years. the more shares of the pool, partial or not, you vote out, the less each share is worth. its a finite pool of money, the more you split it, the less everyone gets.

Looking at it on a completely unemotional level (which I'm not and you're not and most of us aren't, but we're not the ones divvying the playoff pie up) Manny did contribute in a positive way to a bunch of games that the Sox won this season and thereby contributed to them making the playoffs.

Then if we win this year I would like Darius Miles to get a playoff share for his fine preseason work!  ha!

OK...I admit that from an objective point of view, Manny deserved a partial share.  However, I reserve the right to be emotional and therefore I don't believe he deserved a partial share for quitting on the team and Boston.
