Well let's be fair he wouldn't be here to lead a team to wins. He'll be nothing more than a bench player providing some scoring off the bench and he would allow House to play SG full time.
and knowing what we all know of steph's opnion of his place in the league, his skills, and his past history with his mouth and actions, you think he's going to be happy backing up a 22 year old off the bench?
Color me skeptical
I agree with you, he's not going to be happy. Having said that, wherever he ends up, he is probably gonna be a back up anyway. he's not starting over Kidd, Parker or Rondo.. maybe he can start for miami but who knows?
but he quits on teams when he's not happy, he's known for it, so why get him of your us if he's just going to quit and be a cancer.
Well, I think the chances of him being a "Cancer" are mitigated by the fact that he would only be signed to a vet minimum deal, and could be cut at the first sign of trouble.
I also think that it is not outside the realm of possibility that a player like that could stay in line for 6 months, especially on a team with the character of the Celtics. I wouldn't sign him long term, but on a short "make good" contract, where he is motivated to prove he deserves another contract next year, he could certainly play nice.
Just look at Manny Ramirez, who is very similar to Marbury (nice guy, but with the maturity of an 8 year old, who throws tantrums, and breaks up clubhouses), and became a completely different person for the stretch run in LA.
Ultimately though, I think the question of whether to sign Marbury comes down to what the deal is with Cassell. I am convinced that they feel Cassell has plenty in the tank to be the return to his old form for a couple months at the end of the season and the playoffs, and they are just keeping him rested until then. If they determine that he doesn't have anything left, I would absolutely look at bringing in Marbury, to help solidify the offense off the bench, which has been a concern for this team at times.
