The following names are the names of three rap legends who no one ever mentions in their top five:

1. Eminem -- The best rapper of all time. His stuff is seriously incredible. The content isn't always all that deep, but his rhyme schemes, lyrics and flow are just ill.

2. Nas -- Anyone who puts out an album as amazing as Illmatic automatically deserves a spot HIGH in anyone's top five.

3. Jay-Z: He has put out a high volume of material, and a great deal of it is of high quality. The Black Album was an excellent production, and Jay-Z's emotion and flow are always present.

Does anyone else agree? Or am I alone here?

nas and Jay are in everyone's top five.

em's a solid top ten.

forgoten ones are like, say Mr.Lif, gangstar, del, and tribe.

my top 5, in case anyone cares is

1. Jay
2. Nas
3. Mos Def
4. Mr. Lif
5. Del the funky homosapien, you may nt like his subject matter, but i do :)

are you kidding me kid?  those 3 are ALWAYS named in peoples top 5...  em and nas are in mine, when i read the title of the thread i thought you were actually going to bring up someone like Big L.  I understand where you're coming form when you talk about Lil Wayne (who i don't know why is considered such a "lyricist", but give me a break, em, nas, and jay have been considered top mc's for a good while now.

I would agree.  They are three very talented artists, but everyone talks about them being solid.  I do agree with some of the solid yet somewhat forgotten groups.

Tribe - My personal favorite, even though their shows suck.  Midnight Mauraders is my personal best hip hop album of all time.

Jurassic 5 - Another very solid group, they put on a good show

Handsome Boy Modeling School/Lovage - Don't know if they are performers or producers, but their stuff is great.

Beatnuts - Very slick stuff

But I'm a little dated in the music department.

2. Jay Z amazing body of work.

3. Lil Wayne   Based on what he's done so far. Might move up higher.

4. 2-pac    with more time could have been number two.

5. Snoop and Nas. Tie.  Nas better in his prime. Snoop a lot of good stuff over a long time.

Sorry slim.

I am curious, you say if tupac had more time he could have been number 2.  He put out significantly more work then BIG (like 2 cds)

What about Keith Murray?

I have to agree with Jurassic 5.

Lil Wayne? best rapper? seriously? I mean Seriously? kids today do not know rap like us Older Kids, Im 31. Kids today listen to Hip-Pop, not hip-hop or rap.

Im going to say best Rapper has to be 2Pac.

I guess I'm incredibly old school, compared to these lists. My faves are all from back in the day:

A Tribe Called Quest
Gangstaar
The Pharcyde
Hieroglyphics
Group Home
The Artifacts

etc. etc..

Anyone here ever even listened to any of those groups?

Pharcyde is one of my all time favorite groups.  What about Cunninlynguists though?
When I'm in the gym...I like to grunt when  I get my swell on... That way everyone can see how jacked and tan I am.

I am so sick of this LIL' WAYNE lover trend. It's so annoying. "Wheezy" as all the girls like to call him is so overrated. He was good before he sold out and blew up.

Cunninlynguists are a great group, Mic Like a Memory and Lynguistics are awesome songs in my opinion.

Lupe Fiasco is so good, just listen to him and give him a chance. He is the man.

Some other stuff that is good:

Cormega
The Sweatshop Union
Masta Ace
Binary Star

Etc...

Eminem is the best rapper alive.

And I dont know if any of you have heard of Joell Ortiz but IMO he is the best rapper rapping at the moment, I know Em is coming back with an album though.

Joell Ortiz is better then Nas and jay-Z

yea, i find wayne vapid and unitersting. he's the ultimate "CARS WOOOO!!!! GIRLS WOOO!!!!!" rapper.

whoever said lupe, good call i missed him. his last album was incredible, but he'll never get mainstream because he raps about social issues.

thats my problem with rap now. when i was growing up (25) rap was about social change and awarness. now its all vapid made for MTV and clubbin trash.

you know another forgotten group, although everyone goes "yea i know those guys" once you mention them?

NWA.
