Note: i am not a USC or LSU fan, i have reffed HS football. i have never seen anything as blatant as this...

http://gamecocks.fandome.com/video/105285/Ref-Tackles-Player-at-208-Mark/?q=r

look at the 2:00 mark, the QB scramble. i mean, the guy breaks down and shadows him for 3-4 steps face up before throwing the shoulder into him...And ive seen zero reporting on this.

Mabey the guy is just incredibly uncordinated and acadentaly shadowed the kid and then threw a shoulder block...but honestly, no one wants an explination on this?

i'd be ticked if i was a USC fan.

Wow, that does look pretty blatant.  That's bad.

They just ran a segment on it on College Football Live.  Pretty funny stuff.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

He did a great job of breaking down, and lining his man up in the open field, but he really needs to wrap up.  He put on a good lick, but this is the SEC, and you can't get away with that.  He was lucky his teammate was there to clean things up for him....

Come on, as bad as it looked, you can't believe it was intentional.  He found himself trapped, with a guy running right at him, he chose the wrong way to move, and tried to brace himself for the impact (if he didn't lower his shoulder he would have been flattened).

thats ur perception.  my perception is that he moved in the direction of the player, not that he was trapped, and lowered the shoulder intentionally.

And put his career in jeopardy?

Seriously, what would be his motivation for that?

i dont think his career would be in jeopardy.  a risk of getting hurt, yes, but not ending a career.

u ask the key question....what is his motivation?

he mirrors the kid, face to face,  for 4 steps, and then lowers his shoulder and lunges forward.....

as a former high school ref, i never found it useful to stand in front of the player and mirror his movements for 4 or 5 steps. i generally went the OTHER way.

of course, when i was playing LB in highschool, i did what the ref did all the time...

Have you ever been in a hallway, and someone starts walking right towards you, and you both try to get out of the way, but you choose the same direction...and then you do it again...and again, and next thing you know, you are right in front of them.  That looks to me what happened here.  And more importantly, that is a much more rational explanation than the Ref decided to break down and try to tackle the QB.
