seriously though, has anyone seen any reporting on this? I'd be checking his bank account after something that obvious.

yahoo had it on their homepage today.  thats the only coverage i have seen on it.

its pathetic and disciplinary action should occur against that ref.

Come on, as bad as it looked, you can't believe it was intentional.  He found himself trapped, with a guy running right at him, he chose the wrong way to move, and tried to brace himself for the impact (if he didn't lower his shoulder he would have been flattened).

he mirrors the kid, face to face,  for 4 steps, and then lowers his shoulder and lunges forward.....

as a former high school ref, i never found it useful to stand in front of the player and mirror his movements for 4 or 5 steps. i generally went the OTHER way.

of course, when i was playing LB in highschool, i did what the ref did all the time...

Have you ever been in a hallway, and someone starts walking right towards you, and you both try to get out of the way, but you choose the same direction...and then you do it again...and again, and next thing you know, you are right in front of them.  That looks to me what happened here.  And more importantly, that is a much more rational explanation than the Ref decided to break down and try to tackle the QB.

sure, ive never done it 4 times in a row to square up with the person, then drive my shoulder into him though.

but lets say your right, and he just froze like a deer in the headlights. then the guy should be fired for incompetence. i was a freaking HS ref for 2 years,  and i never had a problem getting out of the way of a guy coming full speed into the hole. its really not a difficult thing to do, and considering he's trained for YEARS to get to his level, inexcusable not to do.

but hey, mabey he's one of, to quote robot chicken (great show btw) "a lemming, one of natures noted retard's" and lacks basic spacial awareness and motor skills. and if so, he should be canned for an inability to do his job.

as a ref, your told, first rule, GET OUT OF THE WAY. pick a side and go there. quickly. this guy perfectly mirrored the kid for 4-5 steps to both sides, staying DIRECTLY IN FRONT of him, and then dropped him. either he's dirty, or he's incompetent to the extreme.

those kids deserve better either way.

That's pretty bad.  So obvious it isn't even funny.  I found it funny some guy on youtube said this.

The next chance you get, you get a 3rd string wide-out to run a drag over the middle and put his helmet in the refs knees. Sure, it's a penalty and the guy gets ejected, but you don't have to worry about the ref anymore.

I think the John Cheney in me would have wanted to go with that plan too.  Ref needs to be suspended or fined big time though.

I think the ref is an ex player and got caught up in the moment.
