LarBrd33,

I don't think there's much of a difference to other fanbases on this issue, including the over-reaction to pre-season games.

However, at least from my perspective, Pruitt has showed signs he could belong to a NBA court. I know most of those "busts" you cite did the same thing at some point, but, well, that's the first step, isn't it? Sure it is way too early to know what he will become, although it's true his chances of becoming an All-Star are basically non-existent - it's safer to predict what he won't become. Btw, Bass is already a legit NBA player and Azubuike is my early prediction to win the MIP award.

To whoever asked, yes, he seems to be able drive to both sides.

hope you fellas are right.   Either way we're still one of the favorites to win it all this year, because our starting lineup is so solid.

But I don't see much out of Pruitt to be excited about.

Second year player finally getting a chance in the preseason.

Once the regular season starts, he could earn 5-15 minutes a game.

Still has a long way to go to become a 6th man, let alone a starting PG or an All star (as some are unfairly comparing him to)

As I have said many times, I think he will become a strong NBA player. Bill Walker too. What does that mean?

Well, Leon Powe is a strong NBA player. So is Anthony Carter, Reggie Evans, Bo Outlaw and even Eddie House. It doesn't mean that Pruitt and Walker will become All-Stars or award winners, but they could become very important pieces to a puzzle that leads to a championship not only here but elsewhere.

Starters, who knows, maybe. But contributing players, yes, I am sure of it.

Quote
Marcus Banks was the next Iverson
Jiri Welsch was the next Hondo
Brandon Hunter/Big Baby/Powe was the next Barkley  (that's not a knock on Powe.  He's a solid backup)
Orien Greene was the next Jason Kidd
I think at one point Chris Herron was the next Stockton

I have never said any of those things.  And the point is that you called Pruitt a "bum" after some solid preseason showings.
Consider that Rondo struggled his first year, and in his second year became the starting PG of a championship team and will likely elevate his game even more in year 3.
It's not far fetched to think that Pruitt will make good strides in his second year.
The only problem I have with what you're saying is that you seem to ENJOY being the wet blanket that likes to call our young players 'bums'.

I am wary of TA, and I am not 100% sure that Pruitt will pan out, or even Walker.  But I am pleased by the positive signs I'm seeing so far from our young guys.
I don't happen to enjoy raining down negativity on everybody else's excitment.  But hey if you get off on that, keep bringing the he's a no talent 'bum' tirades.
Since so many NBA prospects don't pan out, I'm sure it makes you think you're 'smart' when they don't.  But in fact it doesn't make you look smarter than anyone else, it just makes you look like a killjoy.

As Rick Pitino famously said, the negativity in boston stinks and it sucks.  Fans like you vindicate his famous quote.

Pruitt's a bum.  It's the preseason.  Don't give your hopes up.  I'm not impressed.
how is he a bum? He has played very good every time he has got in a game. He has a very good outside shot, is a good ball handler , has quickness to get to the basket and can stay in front of his man defensively. What evidence do you have that says he is a bum? I am not saying he is going to be an all-star ,but he can very easily contribute good minutes for this team this season.

No he hasn't.  He had one average preseason game against other bums and everyone gets all excited, because it's part of Boston homer culture and they do that with every player who ever puts on the green.  14 points and 7 assists in a preseason game against inferior competition.  Who cares?   Check some other box scores around the league... you'll be surprised.  I'll just randomly look at some from the last two days:

Marcin Gortat had 12 rebounds and 3 blocks in 23 minutes last night.  6-11 240... Who the hell is Marcin Gortat?  I have no idea.  Neither do you.   Nobody outside of Boston knows who the hell Gabe Pruitt is either...

Blake Ahearn had 15 points, 2 assists and a steal in 22 minutes.  Who the heck is Blake Ahearn?  Beats me...

Brandon Bass:  13 points, 9 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 assist in 25 minutes.   Never heard of him

Yesterday Kelenna Azubuike had 24 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal and 1 block... I knew he was effective, but it's nice to see he's developed into an allstar.

Sean Singletary had 15 points, 2 steals in 16 minutes!  Good lord.  Nice to see the Suns finally got their backup for Steve Nash ...

Bad boy James Singleton with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 4 blocks.   BEAST!!

Von Wafer:  23 points in 26 minutes.  I always knew Von Wafer had it in him...

His boy Aaron Brooks had 14 points and 9 assists... Gabe Pruitt-esque.   Poor man's Gilbert Arenas, probably...

19 year old 7 footer Kosta Koufos with 11 points and 7 board in 20 minutes.  Next Shaq

And really... you gotta be impressed with Eric Gordon's 33 points and 2 steals.  Clearly the kid is hall of fame bound... but...

I'm way more impressed with his running mate, Mike Taylor:  21 points, 9 assists, 4 rebounds, 3 steals.    Holy crap.   Whose Mike Taylor?

Bottom line:  Pruitt's a nobody.  He's our 4th string point guard.  He's a frontrunner to be cut if Darius Miles shows a pulse.   He's replaceable.   His "flashes" are merely "flashes".   He wasn't that good in the dev league.  He's been below average in the majority of the preseason games... and the kid puts up 14 and 7 and yall get all giddy.   Not impressed... not sold...

I aint h8tin... im jus keepin it real, yo.  A couple of those guys on the list above, obviously we've heard of.  But I honestly wouldn't be shocked if someone on this board read those names and had no clue who any of them were.  Wouldn't be surprised at all.   Point is... if any of them put up those stats in green, you'd be searching for a random superstar to compare them to.   lol

Have to agree with Larbrd here. May not be the popular thing to do, but it is what it is. I just call it like I see it.

Pruitt was horrible tonight. Couldn't knock down an open jumper, and looked Scal-esque on that last close range shot he took, nearly breaking the backboard in the process.

The kid is going to have to develop a lot more to hope to play over Rondo or House on any night.

He hasn't got the playing time he deserves. Hasn't complained seems first class, He deserves playing time this season and Cassell seems to be a better coach than player he's getting up there in age.

i admit that gabe has looked solid in preseason and the d-league.  but thats the problem, its unclear whether he will be able to contribute or not, as he has not played against top rotation nba talent when the games mean something.  im not saying he is a bust, but he has to convince me a lot more than he is showing me now. i hope he works his tail off and can contribute.

Pruitt has shown more than Miles at this point, which is what really matters at this point.  If Miles can play the 3, that's more a position of need for us than Pruitt as a combo guard.  It's also reasonable to expect Pruitt to get better over the season, and for Miles to get worse because of wear and tear on his knee.

The play of Tony Allen - showing that he's ready for 20MPG, probably backing up Pierce for at least some of that - probably saves Pruitt.  Miles just isn't needed as much with TA's play (not to mention the flashes we've seen from Walker).

Pruitt's played better that I expected, but I'm still not convinced he has an active role on the team.  I think he'll make the team, but even if he dresses I don't see him getting much burn.

Pruitt was great vs. Nets, ho hum vs. Knicks. Doc will be on him to assert himself on a regular basis, otherwise he won't see alot of minutes.

Honestly doc is so annoying sometimes. Against ny his stats and capabilities sucked because doc once again emphasizes that the big three do most of the decision making in the court.

The game before it was depended on pruitt to help the celts win. This needs to happen more

Gabe looks phenomenal today after a fairly poor performance against the Knicks.

Pruitt always looks good when he plays but he's up and down like any young player. I hope they keep him and play the hell out of him early in the season.
