Good point.  I lift and work out regularly and I drink quite a bit of beer.  And most of the guys I lift with (who are far more jacked than I am) do the same.  While beer certainly isn't helping anyone's workout regimen, if you do the appropriate cardio to burn off the extra calories, it really shouldn't be a big deal.

I have to say, I am a bigger fan of the winter seasonals more than the Octoberfest's myself.

Sam Adam's Octoberfest is one of their best beers though.

Boston Beer Works has about 16 beers on tap every night. They brew their own beer so its great. One of the beers they just got going is Pumkin Head. Its a great Oktoberfest beer. If you dont like it, theres about 15 others to choose from anyways. Theres one on Canal St. right by the Garden and one by Fenway Park as well... Great food too.

I'm going to disagree with you here.  I had the Boston Beer Works Pumpkin last year and it was so spiced up with pumpkin I could hardly drink it.  Actually I don't really care for any of their beers except for the porter beer they have.  I think I like the Sam Adams Oktoberfest beer out of the ones I've had.  I also prefer the winter beers more so than than the Fall selections.

Pumpkin beers are my favorite flavored beer.  I like Shipyards Pumpkinhead personally.  Can't go wrong with Sam Adams Octoberfest either.

Issues with Beer and workouts
1) Calories
2) Alchohol
   2a) slows metabolism
   2b) body exerts energy removing alchohol from system as opposed to other things
   2c) dehydration
   2d) effect on hormone regulation
       2d1) could be through lack of deep sleep
       2d2) could be direct
3) Hops
   3a) studies have linked the consumtion of hops to estrogen like effects on the body, although I wonder if enough of the hops are consumed through beer to make a difference.

THAT BEING SAID - is there anybody here who is going to resign from posting on CB and enter into a body biulding contest?

Drink beer (if age > 21) - be merry, and if you post a comment like "People who work out and try to build muscle don't drink beer" at least back it up with some of the facts / research.

Dogfish's "punk'd" is the best pumkin beer ive ever had that wasen't on tap. unfortuanly, like all thier oustanding beers, they charge an arm and a leg for it.

anyone ever tried thier 120 minute ale? its like 19.99 for 4 of the darn things. I would never buy it, but i got it for xmas one year from a buddy and i gotta say....awesome beer.

Dogfish is the chronic.  The 120 minute will have you crosseyed in two seconds - though it's a bit sweet for my tastes.  I used to order it occasionally on trips to sunset - though I have traded alliances and am more of a public house guy now.  Some reason sunset is a little too much in the 'fridays' (the restaraunt not the movie) model for me.

Sam Adams Chocolate Bock from their "Utopian" series of beers.  It was $15 for a 24 oz bottle.  I thought that was sort of a silly price, but figured it would be a nice treat for vacation.

It did not disappoint.  We didn't have any beer glasses at the cabin, so I drank it out of a wine glass over the course of an entire night.  The wine glass proved appropriate since I pretty much drank the beer like you might drink a bottle of wine.

It definitely got better with time.  Letting it breathe actually seemed to work, and the room temp was probably closer to the appropriate temp for drinking.

Not a very bold beer, but I loved the chocolatey nutty flavor. 

Not sure that I'll pony up the big bucks again, but I enjoy trying all of Sam's brews.

They might be standard size but they hit alot harder.. I'm a huge fan of the Imperial White. This is uber depressing because I'm still stuck at work and all I have left is a case of Michelob Ultra my buddy left in my fridge. I'm going to have to go the store after work.

Definitely have a lot more bute in them.  I really like the stout.
