"Caller driven radio" my ________ .

Glenn Ordway perhaps understood the NBA in 1988, but all he is now is platitudes (defense wins championships) and "Guy Radio". I agree that Grande and Max do a fine job, but there is no one at that station who gives a [dang] about the Boston Celtics. Callers get on the air when nothing else is going on and who has an hour to wait on hold to talk to the guys who know less about the game than many of the callers?

So many times on WEEI the hosts have seemed genuinely proud to not follow the NBA, and make jokes about the Celtics and pull "facts" that are proven false with about 30 seconds of work and an internet connection.  The only part of the big show I like is when the callers leave funny messages.

What does that say about your show when the best part is the people who aren't on it?

"Caller driven radio" my ________ .

My thoughts exactly.  They like to use that excuse, but if the hosts have an agenda they're going to stick with it (for months on end...).  If a bunch of people started calling the station wanting to talk about badminton would they start talking more badminton?
Yup

I disagree, I don't think Ordway is an "expert" in any sport but I believe he possesses enough knowledge to bring in experts and have discourse. He is witty, intelligent, respectful and a modest family man. He has on-air chemistry with anyone you put next to him...

I don't care, hate WEEI all you want. D and C sucks, Dale and Holley are rump-swabs but I don't agree with the Ordway hate...

analogically speaking,
He is a great "actor" and he makes every "movie" he's in a better "flick". Although, not all of his "movies" are great. IMO

I think the last time I called in a talk show was for Eddie, Mark & Jim on the Sports Huddle back in the 80's.  I was 13 or 14 and I used to make some crazy voice.  They'd think I was drunk and hang up. Ahhhh, the good ol' days.  The Sports Huddle was great for a while.

WEEI's "coverage" of the Celts made me nuts.  I've harped on it before, but besides the weekly interview with Danny & Doc they largely ignored the Celts until well into the playoffs.  The propensity to whine about the Pats Super Bowl loss months after the fact was just brutal.  Then there was all of the Spygate junk...Uggghhh

Redz -- I'm beginning to think we've had the same life (do you have 2 teenage daughters?) -- though I think my 'Huddle' years were about 10 years earlier.  I loved the Huddle -- though my memories go back to when I was 13-ish I think (1971), listening with my transister radio in bed, lights out on Sunday night.  I enjoyed them very much -- and I do wonder whatever became of Mark and Jim.   I think that  the show must have been a blast for them -- seemed like 3 friends who just liked to talk sports one of them with personality (Eddie) and the other 2 just having a good time.  Pioneers in sports talk.

"Tune in again next week when Bob Veale and the Screaming Scalapines make their Boston radio debut".  I actually found the lame ending hilarious back in the day.

ok so you don't work for EEI or Intercom, is Ordway your daddy? or are you Ordway?  The show is bascially screaming, making fun of Michael Felger and complaining... again I listen, but it could be so much better. If you missed the Diehards on 1510 a few years back, you missed out on what real Boston sports radio could be

You're right, the whole "caller driven" thing is BS...but they are listener driven.

Let's face it, the majority of the time they talk about what the majority of their listeners are interested in...the Patriots and Red Sox.

As much as most people here hate to admit it, the majority of Boston Sports fans did not care one bit about the Celtics until June.  Celtics talk meant lower ratings.  The guys on the radio aren't dictating that, the people who are listening to the radio are dictating that.

You got me cdif911, Glenn Ordway is my uncle! It's true!   ;)

No really though I disagree, I think Ordway and Buckley are really good.

I worked in the same building as 1510 before they moved (1 van de Graaff drive, Burlington, MA) or went under. So I saw the "diehards" all the time, in studio and on the elevator with them. And BTW, maybe they didn't "get it" at the time but they were jerks... They thought they were rockstars man, straight up SMUG.

So spare me the 1510 lecture...

I used to work out at a GYM and played in a basketball League with Gerry Callahan (I won't disclose the GYM because he's still a member). Now mind you, I can't stand the guys "affiliations" and I won't get into here but I'm not the biggest fan of his show...

I pictured him to be a jerk... One of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

But regardless, Summer = music

The last call I made was to Jimmy Meyers after Reggie died in 1993.

I did call Eddie back in 1992 and they had me on hold so long that they literally asked for my number to call me back so I wouldn't have to wait.
I love my kids, call me a sap - it's true.

EEI sucks!  It's as simple as that!

I agree about Ryen Rusillio.  It's why I used to listen to the Die Hards on 1510.  Even though the signal was weak, they gave the C's air time and were the home of the C's.

Russillo and Donny Marshall make a great pair and when it's time for Tommie and Mike (not saying it is) to be replaced, I would not mind seeing them as the replacements.
