pretty impressive. but if he was truely deemed unplayable, what gives all of you the idea he can play again after just 2 years?

LR/HR signing. I hope we can screw the Blazers over.

I hope so to. That way we won't feel so bad losing Brandon Roy in the '06 draft to trade for Telfair. I still dry heave thinking about that. Although, of course, we did move Lafrentz's contract in that deal.

I love the signing.

Things I like

1)If he is rehabilitated (mentally and physically) he is only 26 and with him and Walker we look great at the backup 3 (this year).

2)I'm rooting for Darius Miles and there is no better org to make a comeback with since he's tight with Pierce and idolizes KG

Things I don't like

1)Even when he was healthy Darius Miles had NO jumpshot and our shooting is thin with only Ray, House, sometimes Pierce, and ***gulp*** Scal as three point threats

2) Having Miles in camp guarantees that Scal is going nowhere right now as he will be insurance in case Miles does not pan out.

3) Our roster is full and there are still questions at 1 and 5 (more so 5 than 1 IMO)

This last one falls in the neutral range.

If Miles makes this roster and stays healthy a trade will likely be necessary to round the roster into shape.

Feel free to share your likes and dislikes with this move

Have been away from the news for a week or so and have not had time to go through all 7 pages; but have been saying we need a 6-8(+-) SF. Love to be able to put Pruitt, PPierce, DMiles, KG, POB on the floor. That is some serious size and shot blocking.

Miles was a minimum contract from what I heard.  If he doesn't look good, ownership can release him and sign another vet during the season.

Time for the requisite Darius Miles mix to hip-hop music

These two are on youtube:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SUWf7UIS-xs&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SUWf7UIS-xs&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

and this one actually has some different kind of music offerings in it:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KahHoYy-8C8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KahHoYy-8C8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Hope he has some of that athleticism left after his injuries...

wasn't it an independent doctor that examined him (rather than a team doctor)?

He had to be examined by an NBA physician to have his injury deemed career-ending.  In all likelihood, he was also examined by an insurance company doctor, who declared him physically unable to play.

Thus, Portland doctors + NBA doctors + insurance company doctors all determined that Miles' career is over.  I think it's safe to say that he has an uphill battle.

I really wonder what's the criteria used to determine what types of injuries fall into the "Career-Ending Injuries" category as it clearly doesn't necessarily mean that an injury was bad enough to permanently render an athlete incapable of playing.

Mind's open on this one. I haven't seen this guy stink it out on the court in person like I have Paddy O'Blount.

But ... the thought of exchanging Posey for Miles and PJ for Paddy is enough to send me to the liquor cabinet this night.

Scary indeed. Add in giddens and walker and perhaps you will sleep a bit easier (or at least take the edge off the hangover.

Positives for 09:

Tony Allen and Darius Miles want to recreate themselves and start from scratch
JR Giddens and Bill Walker want to prove themselves now and be in the rotation now
Rajon Rondo is a lot smarter player with expereince than he was last year at this time

Every1 on this 15-man roster including Pruitt and Patrick want to add another banner and they have player around them who can tell them what to do!

Negatives: Potential injuries, depth at center, and Darius Miles may end up in jail for weed posession!

Likes - He was finally signed. His contract is non-guaranteed. He has an open mind about proving himself. His NBA idol is on this team(hopefully will encourage him to perfect himself) He's another play not named Scal that is a SF to play backup mins.

Dislikes - I don't want him to be cut like Batista and Dahntay Jones were last year. I hate the possibility of him getting hurt...but that's the risk DA is willing to take, as would I.

As for stuff on the team, we still need a C and there still is a logjam for undersized PFs. If you count Scal, then we have 3 with Powe and BBD. What about Sam Cassell. What's he doing?

Rondo, House, Pruitt
Ray, Tony, Giddens
Pierce, Walker, Miles
KG, Powe, BBD, Scal
Perk, 0'Bryant

With the looks of it(excluding Miles) this is seemingly going to be our roster this year...or at least till before the trade deadline. I suspect there was some inside top secret info that Sam was not returning for sure, as well as PJ? So Ainge is putting his trust into Pruitt to play backup PG and House will be the fall back. BBD and or Scal should be the next target for a bundled trade at some point...
Can't stop, Rondo!

Seems to me that Pruitt is the fallback and House is the backup.

Top secret info? Who was it being kept secret from? It didn't seem like we were particularly interested in resigning Cassell.

For me, the signing will stay in the 'trust Danny' category untill I see him on the court moving around. This guy was sooo athletic in his prior years. I hope this is a make good contract.

I will be putting positive spin on his signing until I see if he breaks out the Forrest Gump Leg braces. 8)

  • You know my methods, Watson.
the bottom line to all of this is that we need someone to step up and play the role that james posey did: lock-down defense, take charges, and nail the wide open shot.

if tony allen, walker, giddens, or miles can help fill this role (a 'four-in-one' package deal) then we'll be fine.  we're still the defending champs, and the only team that really improved themselves in the east is philly.

i'm not worried about the talent level on this team...only their hunger to do this again...

I don't understand how anyone can be upset with this signing. His upside is coming in taking up right where he left off 14/6/1.5 blocks. His down side is he gets cut and we have another open roster space. great signing.

Does anyone know if there will be a press conference with Darius and the celts?
