Diversity? ??? Can he hit and play LF well?

We have a Native American CF, FWIW.

these things matter to me. i like diversity in this day and age....not a huge thing, but something i think about none the less.......

Stupid trade. The only thing similiar about Bay and Manny are their homerun numbers. Manny is a far superior all around hitter. He walks more - he is the smarter hitter. He can hit good pitching.

John Henry and company suffer from a bit too much holier then thou complex.. They need to learn how to manage some egos..

Pete
I think that's pretty unfair to say about management not being able to manage egos. They have won 2 World Series with egos like Pedro, Manny, Schilling, Papelbon, Damon, Beckett, Youkilis, Lowe and Foulke.

Manny will be a perfect fit in Los Angeles. He's just like those fans in the stands. He shows up to play somewhere around the second inning and wants to leave the park before the game is over.

it's stuff like this that backs up Manny's point about not being deserving.

if Manny hadn't come here, we'd still be searching for a WS.....you're better than this, nick. Manny is one of the all-time greats.

Hmmm... the Sox have a Native American, a couple of Japanese players, multiple Latin Americans, Mike Lowell (who I believe is multi-racial), American whites, American blacks, and now a Canadian white.  For a 25 man roster, that's pretty diverse to me.

Not sure where you're coming from here.

Coco - African American
Lowell - Puerto Rican
Matzusaka - Japanese
Okajima - Japanese
Delcarmen - Dominican

Diversity? That's 44% of their 25 man roster.

O happy day!

What a beautiful day to be a Dodgers fan  ;D

-sw

As a Sox fan, I'm a bit stunned. They'll miss hit bat in the fall. oh well.

As a Dodger fan, I'm really excited!!!

Jason Bay is no slouch. He's actually a really solid all around player.

It's surprising they didn't get some bullpen help in the deal however.

solid just doesn't cut it when you are replacing one of the best hitters ever.....and is anybody else bothered by the lack of diversity on this team?

Give Bay a chance...my guess is the use the rest of Manny's money to sign Sabathia...which gives them a chance to compete for a World Series for the next 4 or 5 years.

not a fan of Sabathia. but i'll give Bay a chance...

Justin Masterson was born in Jamaica. So I guess we could include him as Jamaican.

What?  as in what, winsomme?  That comment reeks of quotas.  The same type of absolute silliness that has made such a caracature to the NFL's coaching interviewing process.

Apparently we needed to get a prominent Dominican in return since we traded one?

Maybe, Winsomme, MLB should adopt a hybrid of the of the loony NFL coaching diversity interviewing policy and the NBA salary matching policy at the same time to stock each of their rosters.   Then we would only be able to trade Manny for another Dominican billionaire enigmatic left fielder to keep our quota of God-knows-what on our roster.

We're down 20% Hispanics on our roster....OH NO!!
We only have one black on our roster.  Oh No!!
We have two Japanese players on our roster!!  Is that enough, winsomme?
We have an American Indian on our roster.  Is that enough?
We have two token  really old white guys on our roster.  How's that?
We have a Hispanic manager and first base coach.
We have a black first base coach.
That's almost half the active roster and almost half of the coaching staff.

In the idiotic words of a previous president, This is a roster that "Looks like America"

No, I'm not bothered.

One of the worst things about this in my opinion is why would anyone ever pitch to Ortiz in the late innings now with the game on the line..before, Manny was there to protect, now...if Drew, Youk, Bay or whoever is there, it is surely better then chancing it with Ortiz..that is where we will feel it the most. I hope Bay is clutch and can hit under intense pressure..We will soon find out becaues he is going to be seeing a lot of game deciding pitches late in the game. I hope he does it but playing for the Pirates is surely not the same as playing for the Sox.

Watch Papis obp go up now due the increased walks he will get.

Manny is hitting .309 with RISP and .274 vs lefties

clearly, you are not bothered.....4 of our 5 starters is white and 6 of our starting positional players is white.......plus the players coming through the system.

not a huge deal, but it is something i think about.

But the 44% of the current roster doesn't denote diversity?
