pathetic   = Blount
Lackluster = Gin baker, Curry...thanks IP
Heartless  = KandiMan
Jerks      = Kobe

Close to how I see it.  But can't one name go in multiple categories?

pathetic   = Blount, Kandiman
Lackluster = Blount, Kandiman
Heartless  = Blount, KandiMan
Jerks      = Kobe, Blount

"Never Nervous (and seldom not-baked, apparently)" Pervis Ellison.  Just pathetic, especially in his later years with the Cs.

I think we should try and differentiate between players who just aren't as good as we hoped they would be, and players who are truly pathetic. If we want to start this discussion it should be around guys like Ron Artest, Josh Howard, and Stephon Marbury. Guys who are truly fitting of this mold.

Exactly my thoughts. Among active players you have guys like those you mention, Tim Thomas, Tinsley, Miles, Vince Carter, Bonzi, Randolph, Curry, the entire Knicks roster actually... Why are guys like Olowokandi and Ostertag in this conversation?

The All-Slacker team (based on unrealized potential due to apathy, lethargy or just being plum stupid when it comes to making life and game decisions):

Pg:  Stephon Marbury
Sg:  Ricky Davis
Sf:  Latrell Spreewell
Pf:  Roy Tarpley
C:   Benoit Benjamin

Bench:  Pervis, Kandi, Stanley Roberts, Chris Jackson (Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf)

Josh Howard?  seems like an over-acheiver to me.  drafted 29th overall and now playing at a fringe-all star level..  what gives?

More than likely his admission that he likes to 'smoke' during the Summer.  Although to be honest I never had a problem with it.  I would have to guess that their are players on the C's that 'smoke' from time to time.

The worst of the worst is Blount.  He pretty much fills up every category.

I don't know about pathetic, lackluster, and heartless but here are some definite jerks (at least from these comments they made, don't know any of them in person so I can't really say):

Steve Francis:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/02/25/AR2006022501849_pf.html
Quote
Steve Francis, the New York Knicks' newly acquired guard, was preparing to throw the ball inbounds in the third quarter of the Washington Wizards' 110-89 victory last night when a heckler shouted, "Hey, Stevie, where you going next?"

Francis looked over his shoulder and shot back nonchalantly, "To the bank."

Latrell Sprewell on why he turned down a $21 million contract "I Can't Feed My Family on $21 Million"

And my all time favorite - Marvin "Bad News" Barnes (briefly a Celtic in the 70's too, where he suppossedly snorted Coke on the Celtics bench, but that's another issue)
From the book "Loose Balls" by Terry Pluto about the ABA:
Quote
Marvin had a great night, 48 points. After the game, I saw him in the
dressing room and he started giving me his State of the Spirits speech.

He told me, `Bro, you know what's wrong with this team? We don't have any
team play. We don't care about each other.'

I thought, `Maybe Marvin is starting to see what the problem is -- this
team has no unity.'

Then Marvin continued, `Let me give you an example. Tonight, I had 48
points with two minutes to go. Did anybody pass me the ball so I could get 50? Huh? No, they just kept the ball to themselves and I got stuck at 48.
Stuff like that; that's what's wrong with these guys.'

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Though not every player deserved the bad rap permanently, most of the guys from the "Jail-Blazer" days circa 2003-2004 were considered somewhat heartless, pathetic, and lackluster and there were a lot of jerks.

Edit: Wrong year. Look at the 2002-2003 team. You had guys like Jeff McInnis, Qyntel Woods, Zach Randolph, Ruben Patterson, Rasheed at his worst, Bonzi Wells, a crusty Scottie Pippen, Damon Stoudemire - wow, what a list. Again, some of these guys changed their reps after they left Portland, but during the 02-03 season, these guys were definitely heartless, lackluster, pathetic and a bunch of jerks.

Yeah, they're certainly in the running for the team award.

Well, pathetic is 1/4 of the qualification.  I'm thinking Jerome James might fit the model of "modestly" talented, lackluster and heartless.  Frankly I'd rather have Blount.

I never cared much for Dwayne Schintzius either but not sure he is anywhere near some of the all-time nasties.

Haven't seen many prima donnas mentioned (Kobe aside).
