Derrick Coleman.  Had more talent coming into this league then 95% of the players.  But was lazy and didn't really care.

Two former Blazers have to make the list, Qyntel Woods for dog-fighting, and Ruben Patterson for sexually assaulting a woman.

another 80's candidate: "Dinner Bell" Mel Turpin.

Let's toss in Michael Young too, C's #1 pick that got beat out by 6th Rounder Rick Carlisle.

add the biggest waste of space drafted by the C's:  Michael Smith.

i got to go with Vince Carter.  The guy has all the talent in the world.  If he applied himself even 75%, he could have been one of the top 25 players to ever play if not higher.  put paul pierce's heart with VC's talent athleticism and that player would be right up with Kobe and LeBron.

its easy to pick out the fringe players but the tragedy is the great players that plateau despite their immense talents

i edited it to make a little more sense.  pierce is significantly more talented than carter.  carter is more athletic, jumps higher, etc. but also will sit out a game over hurt feelings or go into DNP-hangnail mode at the drop of a hat.

i don't want to continue this debate but when VC tries, there are very few players that can stop him and that can't be solely because he is more athletic.  the guy has tremendous talent.  he has the ability to drive/slash, has range, can play defense; but for whatever reason he lacks the motivation.  his play during the 99(?) playoffs, albeit a small sample, was great.  he almost carried that toronto team past the eventual EC champs.  i guess one could argue that maybe he was a fluke and the rest of his career has been a true respresentation of his ability.  i just have a hard time believing that.

i also don't want to continue the debate but why would the exception be the rule?  even tony delk and dana barros had 50+ point games.

The things RL35 cited above aren't really an "exception".  Vince has a higher scoring average than Pierce in his career, averages more assists, fewer turnovers, and shoots a higher percentage overall, as well as on three-pointers.  Paul averages more rebounds and steals.

Vince Carter has a ton of talent.  Not just athleticism; he puts that athleticism to good use by being an elite scorer and all-around player.

What Vince doesn't have, as cited above, is a lot of heart.  Talent-wise, though, I'd rank him above Pierce.

i mean come on, youve done it right?

Never done drugs. No desire at all. If someone wants to wreck their life doing it that's on them. Just don't tell these kids it's okay.

who the hell wrecks their lives smoking pot? And how is Josh Howard pathetic and a coward for admitting to it in an interview? God forbid a player actually tells the truth during an interview for once. Josh Howard is a basketball player, man, he has no responsibilities as a role model. He gets paid to put balls in hoops, not to raise your kids for you.

And in the end, even if you hate the "everyone does it" excuse, it's still the truth. Atleast 60% of the league smokes in the offseason.

I agree.

Personally, I've never smoked pot, but I don't get the hate for it. We have beers sponsoring sports, and alcohol ruins far more lives than weed. Too bad Kemp and Vin Baker weren't potheads... they probably could have remained effective longer.

Ban the beer commercials before worrying about the influence of Josh Howard.

Great answer.

The problem with Coleman was he wanted to be a guard.
