I completely agree. I actually really like Tony Allen. Everyone forgets before the knee surgery he was playing really well. With Posey gone, he's gonna get expanded minutes. He plays good defense and he's more athletic than Posey. We saw glimpses of what could be during the blow out win to wrap up the finals. He's gonna be more confident this next year and like Ainge said in the interview linked here those 26 playoff games were like another season worth of experience for our young guys.

I think we sign the Giddens and Walker and pick up another vet for the other half of the MLE and we're set. When the season progresses maybe make some pick ups like Brown and Cassell.

Overall I am really pleased with this off season.
As the C's stand now, there's 12 players under contract.  Rondo, Ray, PP, KG, Perk, House, TA, Veal, Patrick, Pruitt, Powe, Davis.  Add Giddens and Walker for 14.  If Danny picks up another vet big that's 15.
How are you planning to get the mid-season pickups without cutting someone and who were you planning to cut?

By the way, pleased with both.  Big TA supporter hoping he stays healthy enough to finally have his breakthrough season.

It's one of the many reasons that the Tony Allen signing makes no sense to me. You have similar players in Walker and Giddens taking roster spots. Allen was relegated to the deep bench because he wasn't producing. Why waste roster flexibility even for a reasonable contract. Why draft Giddens and Walker if your going to resign Allen?

An end of the first round draft pick isn't enough to turn away a free agent. Giddens, Walker too, Danny isn't able to rely on them because he doesn't know how good they'll be at the start of their NBA careers. You shouldn't plan your squad around guys who you have no idea what to expect. You especially shouldn't turn away a talented player who'll play ahead of them next season because of their presence.

And TA is a model of consistency? I'm not even sure you can say that about his defense.

as long as he isn't playing point guard, he's actually pretty consistent. plus, he's a bench guy anyways, we don't need an allstar.

To me it seems like an unnecessary signing. I would have liked to have seen someone with a little more basketball IQ and maybe a jumpshot. Sadly at this point the FA well is pretty dry. I'll have to pray for some development from Powe, Pruitt, and Davis.

Don't sign Walker.  let him play over seas this year as his leg recovers.  He can be the important rookie next season when the Celtics do not have a 1st.

Very happy.

Continuity.  Athleticism.  Defense.  Three point shooting. Bench enthusiasm. Ball movement (via House). Both House and Allen are energy players.

I hope they keep Tony at the 2 and the 3 and make him give up the ball and run around alot. Looking forward to seeing if House, Allen and Giddens can get some nice defense going followed by fast break points.

is walker still considered a rookie if he's drafted this year and plays overseas? i guess that would almost be like a greg oden.

walker might get some good money layin overseas, more than his rookie contract the ways things are shaping out.

This whole scenario (which I've heard elsewhere) seems a little bizarre to me. Walker's available at #30, we draft another wing player instead, we buy a draft pick so we get Walker in addition to Giddens, and then try and get him to play overseas? Not saying it won't happen, just that it seems weird. If we'd have signed Posey instead of Allen he'd seem to be less necessary than he is now.

I don't think he goes overseas either... and I think the waiting for his leg to recover bit is a bit overblown. From what has been reported, is that it was quite a minor procedure and that he should be in perfect health in a couple of weeks or so. That's my take on the extent of the injury.

If Danny doesn't sign anyone else, I doubt he sends Walker to Europe. As it stands Tony Allen is his only wing off the bench. I'm sure he's thinking that Tony is going to get most of those reserve wing minutes, but he'd be crazy to send Walker away with only oft-injured Tony Allen backing up Pierce and Ray-Ray. The smart move is to keep both rookies around and give both of them a chance to earn some minutes. That's particularly true since Walker has a little more size than Giddens -- if he can be coached up quickly enough, he might be a guy they use to guard some of the bigger threes. I love Tony Allen's defense, but he's just too small to guard a guy like LeBron. Of course, I'm not loving the idea of any rookie guarding LeBron, but...

Walker's recent injury sounded really minor. If he's healthy you can try to play him the same way Philly played Thaddeus Young. Let him play defense and get garbage points off the glass and on the break. Spot up for threes every now and then. He'll miss some rotations, but if he's not a total idiot he can probably be coached up enough that he doesn't kill the team for a few minutes here and there. Giddens, too. They did a good job last year of getting Big Baby in games by keeping his job simple. I don't see why they can't do that for Giddens and/or Walker.

Definitely happy about Tony - more lukewarm on House.

It amazes me how few people really get how great Tony was  AND will be in the future after his leg is completely healed.... would rather try starting all over again.

His turnover ratio in minutes played really isn't very much.  Not understanding where this ridiculous underestimation is coming from (fans that don't understand good defense?).

Tony was the Big 12 player of the year his senior year.  It's not like it's a pud league...i.e. Paul Pierce, etc. are former Big 12 players.  You can't stop Tony off the dribble, HEALTHY, period.  Kobe can't cross-over fast enough to lose him....
