Are you happy with the House & Tony Allen signings?

Very very happy,
I believe that both of them will have a bigger part in the Celtics rotation, especially Tony. Hopefully no more injuries and Tony will be great off the bench. Eddie is a one-of-a-kind player in this league, always confident and a huge boost of the bench.

The two years is key with respect to their value as trade chips; lots and lots and lots of teams will be looking to shed salary for the summer of 2010.  Scal and Tony Allen may yet prove to be more valuable than we ever supposed!

How can any fan of the Celtics be unhappy with this?...House was an integral part of the team last season, and TA creates a lot of havoc for other teams when he gets real minutes(not like 2.5 seconds vs. Detroit)...I'm just so very happy we actually have a real GM and owners who seem to know what they are doing...

Can you just imagine the bumbling Chris Wallace and Gaston still running things??

Well, my official stance is that I am reserving my judgement...but to answer your question, some might be unhappy because Tony Allen has been known to create just as much havoc for the C's as he has for other teams (if not more)...and they were doing everything they possibly could to try to replace House as the backup PG last season.

You'd think, with any continuation of the improvement he showed last year, that Rondo ought to be playing a fair amount more than the 30MPG he averaged last year.  You'd think, then, than the issue of having a "pure" PG backing him up is somewhat less of an issue, and his having not only another year of experience but a boatload of playoff experience (good and bad) mitigates the need to have someone like Cassell (or Lue) holding his hand.

I'm still intrigued by Livingston, especially if he could play a little off the ball as well.

House was almost a must because of his ability to spread the floor off the bench. In that regard, he can replace/minimize the loss of Posey.

One thing I haven't seen on here is the value of Allen on the defensive end of the floor. In his limited time in the finals, I believe he gaurded Bryant, and quite well. In that regard, he replces/minimizes the loss of Posey. He can defend very well, and Pierce can play SF, if necessary.

I said on an earlier post that signing these two together is close to the same player Posey was. Unfortunately, we are talking about this because Posey got away. He will be very difficult to replace. However, we now can fill most of the same skills, only with multiple players. Not the best solution, but maybe the next best scenario.

In my opinion, we really need a natural SF and a full-sized big to fill out the needs of the roster.

I think Danny overpaid madly for Turnover Tony, and I'm not unabashedly thrilled about his return as some of you are. He MUST play smarter basketball to help this club at all. Chris put it best - he creates havoc, far too often for us.

But ... the resigning of Turnover Tony has a better chance of working out than the inexplicable decision to bring in Patrick O'Blount.

I have been, as most know an ardent anti-TA guy. I would have much rathered have Posey. Now that this ship had passed I am thinking this isn't a bad signing for the money. We do need a defensive guy, and he can fill that role. If we can convince him to be smarter on the offensive side of things it may turn out okay.

As far as the House piece of this I am thrilled. House is such a big part of this team and should be the first guy off the bench at the two or 1 spot. Great job Danny.

If Tony plays with an intelligence he hasn't remotely approached in his career, this might work out. If he gets traded, this might work out.

If he plays the way he's played in the past few seasons, Danny is one-for-three in off-season acquisitions.

It smacks of desperation. Well I've now let all the good free agents get away I'll guess I'll just sign the same two guys I tried to replace at the end of last season and who could barely smell the court on my championship team.

I'm actually pretty happy with the House signing. He's a good shooter off the bench that a good team needs. He's not a pg no matter how much you want him to be. This team still has glaring holes and neither of these signings is going to fill them.

This teams still needs a legit 2nd pg and backup C same as last year. Now however you have Posey's whole to fill on top of that?

Here's another question with these signings. How much of an advantage is it to the Celts just to maintain some continuity with these guys?

In the end, Giddens and Walker will probably both be better than Allen, but that probably isn't true now. While he may not be perfect, the other players on the team know what they have with TA.

Also, there are better true PG's out there than House, but the other players are obviously comfortable handling the ball with him on the floor, if necessary. It worked quite well this season, as a matter of fact.

I like the signings of both players.

With regards to the discussion earlier how these 2 signings impacts the owners willingness to use the full MLE next year on an impact player our team's total salary with go down roughly 8 million next year mostly due to KG's salary dipping from $24,750,000 this year to $16,400,000 next year and BBD and Powe coming off the books.  So it's conceivable we could re-sign BBD and Powe while also using the full MLE next year and still have the total team salary below or around the same as it is this year.   Because of KG's willingness to structure his contract this way the luxury tax implications shouldn't be much different than it is this year.  

So as a result I really don't mind these signings for 2 years.   If House plays the back up PG like he did last year I am fine with that even if he splits some time backing up with Pruitt.  With TA I think most of us are holding onto the hope he plays again the way he did during a 20 or so game stretch right before he hurt his knee well over a year ago.  If he comes close to that it's a good signing.  As long as he was playing with that big brace on his knee this past year I didn't want to judge him too harshly.  

We still have about 2.7 mil left of the MLE to use as long as people don't keep bolting overseas   Have you guys heard Childress and Nachbar are strongly considering contracts I believe in Greece and Russia respectively?   With the American dollar a little weak and European teams spending more I wonder if any other free agents will leave the NBA as well.  Story for another thread though....
