I was actually curious about all of the assistant coaches' status.  In the interview that Tanguay did with Danny last night on Comcast, he asked about Doc but now about any of the others.  Didn't all of the coaches' contracts expire as of the end of the season?  I believe that Clifford Ray has been working with O'bryant some already.  Does that mean he has a new contract?  Haven't heard whether Thib has been around or not.  He is VERY important to this team.  I hope they don't cheap on the coaches like they are on the players.

not Choosing to cripple your salary cap flexablity for 4 years isn't being cheap. were still well over the cap, and will be using that MLE on other players.

I get a chuckle every time i see these responses acusing the team with the 3rd higest payroll in the league of being cheap. we'll all miss pose, but i'd miss our MLE for 4 years more, since all we could sign people for after would be the vet minimum.

As to tib, they better resign him, contrary to popular belif, his resigning >>>>>>>> more important than posey and house.

extremely important question.

I hope the Celtics ownership gives Thib a two year deal and keeps him on board.

thib was on a 1-year contract, correct?

clifford ray i believe runs a big man camp down in orlando. and o'bryant is said to be attending.

i think tom's contract would depend on doc's future. doc may chose to retire after this year. if so, tom could become our head coach... its real possibility.

Become Legendary.

I don't think Doc is retiring. I think he's about to get PAID and he won't walk away from that.

if doc was thinking about retiring, i think he would let that be known, not be negotiating an extension as he is.

I dont believe so, but theres always the possiblity of someone like Mark Cuban throwing a bunch of money at Tom T just to come be THEIR defense coach.

is doc definitely negotiating for a new contract. i think mark spears may have said that he wasnt even sure if doc wanted to coach after this contract for two reasons. first, as celtics insiders have been saying all along, doc's true passion is in broadcasting. and second, with his family still living in orlando, he wants to spend more time with him (consider the death of doc's father and the role this plays) which is obviously hard for him to do coaching in boston.

i am just speculating here but i wonder if doc finishes his contract (which is up in 2 years) and then turns it over to tom thib. obviously, coaching vacancies will open up between now and then and maybe thib will take off. but remember thib is a local guy (new britain CT product and salem state grad) so maybe that will play a factor.

thib's importance to this team is so, so important. KG's emphasis on defense and his making sure teammates D up too combined with thib's defensive genius is such a spectacular combination. its beautiful.

Good question. I feel like the Posey loss isnt as bad as a Tom Thib loss could be. Yes Posey is a great defender blah blah blah but Tom put together and incredible defensive scheme and rotations as a TEAM. And if we can resign Tom i think Posey's defensive presence can be easier to replace than we think.

yes, he is negotiating a new contract, he mentioned after the finals that he had put that off with danny to focus on the season, and now he could focus on it over the summer.

I agree, financial responsibility does not equate to being cheap.

However, before making these statements, I'd wait to see if they actually do use the MLE - I'm not entirely convinced they will.  Also, when you sign a player for a deal using the MLE, you only lose the MLE for THAT season, regardless of how long the deal is. Signing Posey to a 4 year MLE deal would not affect our ability to use the MLE in 2009, 2010 or 2011, except to the extent that our payroll would be higher and management made the decision not to bring on any new players.
Go Celtics.
