is doc definitely negotiating for a new contract. i think mark spears may have said that he wasnt even sure if doc wanted to coach after this contract for two reasons. first, as celtics insiders have been saying all along, doc's true passion is in broadcasting. and second, with his family still living in orlando, he wants to spend more time with him (consider the death of doc's father and the role this plays) which is obviously hard for him to do coaching in boston.
i am just speculating here but i wonder if doc finishes his contract (which is up in 2 years) and then turns it over to tom thib. obviously, coaching vacancies will open up between now and then and maybe thib will take off. but remember thib is a local guy (new britain CT product and salem state grad) so maybe that will play a factor.
thib's importance to this team is so, so important. KG's emphasis on defense and his making sure teammates D up too combined with thib's defensive genius is such a spectacular combination. its beautiful.
