Doc said on WEEI awhile back that Thibs would be back.

I don't have a link or anything.  But it might be in the audio vault on their page.

He talked about how he was disappointed, in a way, because he wants all his coaches to get head coaching jobs and how both Tom and Armond Hill drew interest but it didn't work out this summer.

So probably another one year deal.

...and yet in Danny's interview....when asked about the status of Doc...Danny said that Doc didn't want to talk about his future...for the time being...that Doc was just letting everything soak in...

I take that discussion to mean that Doc is probably weighing his options...if he plans to continue coaching he perhaps is wondering what kind of a raise he should seek...if he's planning on changing his career (as yet unlikely)....if Tom Thib....has already been promised something more....

Are you talking about the 1 on 1 interview with Ainge for 15 min the other night?

That wasnt what was said if you were.  Watch it again.  When asked about Doc, Danny said he talked to Doc about it one time, and Doc said that he wanted to take care of all the free agency issues, then they'll talk after everything is settled.

I dont think bringing Doc back will be an issue, I just dont think he wants to add to all the urgency regarding filling out the roster at this moment.

IMHO resigning Thibodeau is more important than Posey.

not Choosing to cripple your salary cap flexablity for 4 years isn't being cheap. were still well over the cap, and will be using that MLE on other players.

I get a chuckle every time i see these responses acusing the team with the 3rd higest payroll in the league of being cheap. we'll all miss pose, but i'd miss our MLE for 4 years more, since all we could sign people for after would be the vet minimum.

As to tib, they better resign him, contrary to popular belif, his resigning >>>>>>>> more important than posey and house.

I agree, financial responsibility does not equate to being cheap.

However, before making these statements, I'd wait to see if they actually do use the MLE - I'm not entirely convinced they will.  Also, when you sign a player for a deal using the MLE, you only lose the MLE for THAT season, regardless of how long the deal is. Signing Posey to a 4 year MLE deal would not affect our ability to use the MLE in 2009, 2010 or 2011, except to the extent that our payroll would be higher and management made the decision not to bring on any new players.

Sounds like some people are getting spoiled.

is doc definitely negotiating for a new contract. i think mark spears may have said that he wasnt even sure if doc wanted to coach after this contract for two reasons. first, as celtics insiders have been saying all along, doc's true passion is in broadcasting. and second, with his family still living in orlando, he wants to spend more time with him (consider the death of doc's father and the role this plays) which is obviously hard for him to do coaching in boston.

i am just speculating here but i wonder if doc finishes his contract (which is up in 2 years) and then turns it over to tom thib. obviously, coaching vacancies will open up between now and then and maybe thib will take off. but remember thib is a local guy (new britain CT product and salem state grad) so maybe that will play a factor.

thib's importance to this team is so, so important. KG's emphasis on defense and his making sure teammates D up too combined with thib's defensive genius is such a spectacular combination. its beautiful.

thats the point i was trying to make but in less detail haha. yea i would love thibs as our head coach. imagine the defense of our teams in the future... even if we have powe as a starter.

Become Legendary.

I was under the impression he was a near lock to return, though being selfish I wont be happy until we lock him up for a long time to come (even though I know that wont be the case).  He was such a crucial part of team, I am terrified of life after him.

Count on this. Tom Thib will be back. He has already ruled out his interest in being a head coach, as he said something along the lines of it not being his style or something. As for being an Asst, who wouldn't want to come back to a successful team?

In the "Danny Interview" Danny said he talked to Doc once about a contract, but that Doc said to wait till everything else was settled first and then they would talk.

With all due respect, can you back that up with a link?

I don't see why any Asst Coach would turn down a big paycheck and an extended contract.

This one year deal stuff is nonsense. If we keep doing this, eventually a job WILL open up and Thib will walk. We need to lock him up ASAP.

The one year stuff has been by his request.  I don't know where this not wanting to be a head coach stuff comes from, because supposedly that is why he is signing 1 year contracts, and why Doc and Van Gundy have been campaigning hard for him.

I think he was hurt this year by the team being in the finals...no one wanted to wait for him.  But I think he absolutely wants to be a head coach, and he will try again next year.
