Matt Barnes.

that is the guy who will fill the void.  Like I said elsewhere earlier, we should split the MLE between Barnes and House.  If we do that, we are good to go.

You don't have Scal on the depth chart that brings up a point I've been wondering if Walker doesn't go overseas and we get another wing or two doesn't Scal have to go (since Powe and Baby are here for the next season or does  one of them go?)  Theres not enough room is what I'm saying....

Now to the response.

The starters are set and I generally agree with third string so second string I'll list all the possibilities in the order of preference left to right

PG:  Livingston/Sergio Rodriguez/House/Cassell/unamed other? (please not Marbury)

SG:  Bonzi/Rush/TA

SF/ Hermann/Barnes/Nachbar

PF/ Powe or Baby

C (O'Bryant until midseason then...) Mourning/PJ/unnamed other?

SF:

Barnes is a gamer - a role player who steps up in the clutch. I haven't thought much about it until now, but Barnes might work...really well.

I forgot about Miles I'd put him ahead of Nachbar in order of preference.

Congratulations, you managed to came up with 5 names, 4 of which will probably not even be on our roster at all.

Bench
PG: Arroyo (or Dooling as a fallback)
SG: Evans (or Allen as a fallback)
SF: Ross (or Barnes as a fallback)
PF: Powe
C: Elson

EDIT: After thinking it over a bit more, Id prefer to see Quinton Ross jump in at a swingman position, and then pick up an Evans, Allen or Barnes to fill in the other spot.  The more I think about it, the more I think Ross would fit perfectly into the Celts system.

Yeah, great fit right? that is what I have been thinking.

He can defend 2, 3 and even the 4 in small ball --- and most importantly --- spread the floor with the 3-ball.  Dude is tough as nails too, great fit for a defensive team like the C's.

The MLE has got to be spread around to get a backup PG, a swingman, a big, and possibly sign Walker and/or Giddens to an extra year on their deals. I think it's highly unlikely we'd have the resources to get Keyon Dooling (who made $3.5 mil last year) or Matt Barnes, and have enough to fill the other holes.

Bench

PG: Damon Stoudamire
SG: Mo Evans or Kirk Snyder
SF: Linton Johnson
PF: Powe
C: Paul Davis/DJ Mbenga/David Harrison/Michael Doleac

Stoudamire might be had for the vet minimum, although perhaps he'd prefer to stay with the Spurs again this season. Mo Evans would be a nice addition, but would cost a good chunk of the MLE. Johnson is a physical SF who could be a nice defender/antagonist for cheap.

There are a ton of centers available, both on the young end (like Davis and Harrison) and among vets (Doleac, Mourning, Mutombo, Voskuhl).

Sorry made a small error I forgot to add the Great Scalabrine to the depth chart. we only have 3 rosters spots to fill assuming the rookies are signed.

Still don't know how I'd fill the spots.

I just don't see any more 'gaping' holes if we can land House and Barnes.  If the goal is winning number 18 - and it takes the whole MLE to get those 2... then why not?
Its not like they would be getting long term deals...

The rookies can sign the standard rookie deals, they don't need to be on the MLE.  And we can save the LLE and an empty roster spot to add another big mid-season.  Powe and Baby can hold it down up front till then, and we have OBryant and Scal ready to deliver 6 fouls if needed.  A thinner front line got us to 66 wins last year...

PG: House
SG/SF: Barnes or Evans... or Snyder (distant third)
PF/C: Skinner (but I like another suggestion someone made to keep this final spot open until mid-year)
Celtics fan for life.
