Bring Gomes Back!

I have no idea how plausible this request would be, but I'm making the push to bring him back.

Funny, because if you started this thread right after the KG trade (actually, there were several already) you would be greeted with overwhelming support from practically every Celtic fan.   In fact, the Posey signing was kinda looked at as "bringing in an old version of a poor man's Gomes"   But now everyone is sad about Posey leaving and there isn't that much excitement about a Gomes possibility. 

I missed Gomes when he left.  I'd LOVE to have him back.  He was a solid, productive and intelligent player.  I think he battled for minutes with Powe, but I think he'd be a solid replacement for the guy who replaced him.

But it sounds like Minni will match any offer Gomes gets.   He was pretty effective last year.  12.6 points, 5.8 rebounds, 46% shooting and started 74 games for them.  Not sure what his role will be with Kevin Love on board now.

It's the D that's going to be tough to replace from Posey.  Gomes can handle putting the ball in the hole, but could he learn to be a stopper on D?  Could he learn to give good hugs?

I'd take back him or Delonte (or both) in a heart beat.  But both were starters for their respective teams and it's unlikely we could sign either.

Posey was competent out there, but I wouldn't really say he was "all defense" worthy or anything.  I was a little disappointed with some of his man-on-man defense.  He fit the system, but I think finding a replacement isn't as daunting as people make it out to be.

DWest was a starter, but the Cavs just gave Boobie a 5 year contract w/ starter money.  And the question and answers w/ Danny Ferry on hoopshype.com/rumors makes me think Ferry isnt sure West will be back.

No doubt the system helped him, and he was certainly not immune to some lapses on D, but I've said it a gazillion times, when you think back to the times when the Celtics were playing the kind of smothering D that made the opponent look completely out of sorts, Posey was omnipresent.

posey was more of a team defender than a one on one. and I think that cliff ray will improve gomes even more than he did before. he can even play the 3/4 positions, much like posey.

rondo likes to gamble on defense too much with his steals. worked out in game 6, but usually leads to blow bys and foul trouble.

Gomes can't fill the defensive void, but who can?  He would be a great role player off the bench, same definition that you would give Posey.  I'd love to see him back.  Great role player, great character.
