It's the D that's going to be tough to replace from Posey.  Gomes can handle putting the ball in the hole, but could he learn to be a stopper on D?  Could he learn to give good hugs?

I think Posey was a good defender made great by the system.  Let's hold on to Tommy Thibs and plug in Ryan!!
Posey was competent out there, but I wouldn't really say he was "all defense" worthy or anything.  I was a little disappointed with some of his man-on-man defense.  He fit the system, but I think finding a replacement isn't as daunting as people make it out to be.

No doubt the system helped him, and he was certainly not immune to some lapses on D, but I've said it a gazillion times, when you think back to the times when the Celtics were playing the kind of smothering D that made the opponent look completely out of sorts, Posey was omnipresent.

Thanks to KG omnipotence and rondos omni-speed (ok I made that up)

I think he'd be a good fit however, all the flack McHale took for the last time we dealt with Minnesota, you think they are gonna let him go without a fight?

DA on Ryan Gomes..

"Ryan Gomes may be one of the best people I’ve been around in 25 years of sports"

And you think Danny wouldn't try to pry him back from Minny? I trust Danny Ainge. He knows what kind of team he has here and he will bring the right player to this team.

Also bring back TONY ALLEN. Does anyone remember him being a "first class pest" on the defensive end?

well at least at this point we don't have to really worry about losing out on other FAs during the waiting period to see if Minny wants to match any offer we would make him....because who are we in danger of losing out on....?

i like Gomes a lot and would be vrey happy for his return to the Cs...

I would love to be able to resign

D West  PG/SG
T Allen SG
R Gomes SF/PF

What ever we can get on the cheap for another back up center.

PG Rondo/West/Pruitt
SG R Allen/T Allen/  Giddens
SF P Pierce MVP/Gomes/Walker
PF KG/Gomes/Powe/Baby
C Perk/Bryant/Scal/????

Id take that, and I think we could win.
West can hit the three, T Allen can get to the rim. Gomes can hit the mid range now, and Powe and Baby can get rebounds...go for it.  West, Allen and Gomes were all role players we need.

If we have enough dough...but I'm thinking Minni or Clevland would match.  Brian S may be able to contribute this year.....maybe?  Making gomes less valuable.

Minnesotta just might be willing to let Gomes go.  They've got a nice frontline now.  They might not want to spend the equivalent of the MLE on him.

Having said that, Gomes might not be the right player to be the Boston 6th Man.  BBD, Powe, and Gomes are all about the same height.  Gomes is a better version, but you still have redundancy.  If you want a backup PF, go taller.  If you want a backup SG/SF, go with a better 3-point shooter to help spread the defense.

Right...funny how after a player leaves town all of a sudden we hint that he was never that great to begin with.

My how we change.
