  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
We don't necessarily need a small forward who can play PF.

I like the idea of signing Arroyo & Thomas with the MLE. Arroyo would give us a legit back-up PG and Thomas would give us a solid PF/C. Then we could sign a decent SG/SF to the vet min. Finley maybe? If it were to happen like that we'd have a pretty solid rotation.

A bench of Arroyo, Giddens, Finley, Powe, and Thomas sounds pretty good to me.

lets strike back at the Hornets and sign Pargo.  He was a microwave off the bench for the hornets and he can solve our back-up PG woes.  also perhaps we can swing devean george, though he may be asking for too much and he's getting older.  but he played a big role on the lakers during their run.  he can still hit the 3 and play marginal defense...in Thibs system he may be able to duplicate Pose, though he isn't as physical.

What would it take to trade for kirilenko? He's not the shooter that Posey is, but he can be that great defensive presence that we will need.

Jones would be good if he's still the player he was a few years ago.

Other possible wing players (sorry, I am not yet ready to call them "Posey replacements" -- those are big shoes to fill!):
M. Barnes
K. Snyder
Q. Ross
M. Evans
B. Nachbar
R. Davis
T. Allen

I hate Plan B!  Losing Posey is a big blow for us and Posey indeed had the bargaining chips and was for sure going to get his well deserved pay rise.  Too bad we didnĀ“t offer him 3 years on the mid level.

I think PLAN B should be firstly, getting Eddie House back and give him his raise he deserves on a 3 years deal.  Get Tony Allen back too and DO NOT involve Scalabrine at all next season....trade him if possible and get someone with a high pedigree as a defender, which is going to be the key for us next season too.  Danny Ainge MUST have thought about this situation because otherwise he would be unreal.  I expect a good guy coming in for the 5-6m mid level exception.
In Danny Ainge I Trust!

Ross and M. Evans could be possibilities.  It has been a few years since Eddie Jones was any good.

My top 5 Posey replacements in order...

1. Josh Childress (after the Hawks sign Josh Smith, and hoping they wouldn't match our offer... so it's doubtful)
2. Matt Barnes (enough of this talk of "he's a punk", he would be a spark off the bench and is probably the most similar player to Posey on the market, hits the 3 and plays good defense)
3. Ricky Davis (was my favorite player while he played for us, everyone says ricky can't win and he makes teams bad, they don't think that maybe he can't win because he is on bad teams)
4. Tony Allen (knows the system, obviously he wouldn't be playing Posey's position, but hes great on defense, he could back up ray, leaving an opening for somebody like bill walker to back up pierce, with time he could be an excellent replacement)
5. Kirk Snyder (haven't heard of him much in the NBA, i just remember him being terrific in college, add him to the great boston atmosphere and who knows, he could be good enough)

the guy I really think we should be targeting is Trenton Hassell.

a. he would replace 70-80% of the defense that Posey brought. He's played 4 seasons with KG and was the starting SF on the MIN team that went to the Conf. Finals in 2004.  He's not as skilled offensively as Posey, but he won't hurt us (I think Powe will asked to replace Posey's scoring off the bench; and we might look to Giddens/Walker for some scoring punch).

b. there's no room for him in New Jersey -- who is rebuilding -- and who have Bobby Simmons, Vince Carter, Jarvis Hayes, Eduardo Najera, and Chris Douglass Roberts at the 2/3.

c. a deal of Scal, Big Baby, $1M, and 2nd round pick for Hassell would save NJ nearly $4M over the next 2 years.

d. adding Hassell via trade -- as opposed to say signing Matt Barnes or Tony Allen -- adds only about $400k this year, which is the last year before KG's contract goes down some $8M next year. It also keeps the MLE available should there be a restricted FA who shakes loose.

I'd also like to bring back Eddie House -- 2yr/$3.7M deal -- to keep some continuity on the bench with him and Powe:

Rondo / House
R. Allen / Giddens & Walker
Pierce / Hassell
KG / Powe
Perkins / TBA / O'Bryant

According to Hoopsworld's Bill Ingram the Boston Celtics are talking to the Sacramento Kings about SF-Ron Artest.  Word is that Danny Ainge offered James Posey before "Pose" accepted the Hornets offer.

Interesting!!!

Do you mean the Kings?  Artest isn't on the Nuggets.  Would Ronnie want to come off the bench?  I doubt it.

this is a tough one. I'd say Gomes, although I like Q Ross and possibly Josh Childress (would Atlanta match if we gave him 4 years MLE? he'd make a great Celtic, i have to admit)

Posey played 3 and some 4, part of what makes him so difficult to replace (that and ubanga). you figure with Big Baby and Powe developing, we don't need anybody else at the 4. we just drafted two wing players, but you can't count on either, particularly for this year. Gomes is tough, he's a great glue guy, he's young, and we can probably get him for 2/3 of the MLE and still get one more player (my vote is for Eddie). Gomes and House for Posey? Maybe. I don't see a better alternative.

i guess its also possible we use some of the MLE for Bill Walker.

We don't have the contracts to send to SAC for Artest. Unless we sign and trade someone with the MLE its not happening.

1. Carlitos

Arroyo is a terrible fit for our team. He's too dominant with the ball and very bad playing in half-court sets. Besides that, we need someone who can shoot, who creates spacing, to make up for Rondo's weaknesses. If Rondo struggles again in the playoffs next season, what can Arroyo offer us? Teams play Arroyo the same way they play Rondo - sagging off, giving him the space. The difference is that Arroyo is a far worse player than Rondo when he can't run and push the ball. He'll dribble for 20 seconds in the perimeter and then make a pass hoping the receiver bails him out. And this is when he makes the good decision, frequently he'll take a contested jump-shot or make an offensive foul/produce a turnover while trying desperately to attack the basket in a fully crowded paint.

2. Finley

Go to a Spurs forum and ask them about Finley. He's finished, he was terrible for them last season.
