Now that Posey has gone to NO, many want to speculate on Plan B.

My take:

Re-sign Tony Allen. And rely more on Scal. I know Scal is not as good as Posey, but he does do alot of the same things, including hitting 3's, defending 4's. Neither distinguishes himself with rebounding. Tony Allen can fill the void on covering small 3's and all 2's. He also helps out as BU PG, although I am hoping he is option 3 here (behind Pruitt).

As weak as this Plan B sounds, it is viable. The key is for Scal to get in better shape, refine his 3 point shooting, and expect a better year from TA.

I think Plan B should be to split the MLE to resign Eddie House and Tony Allen....Give House a raise and a couple years (maybe 2year 5 mil) and give TA some years (maybe 3 years 8-9 mil)....

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
We should rely more on Scal to make sure every player gets a dry  towel when he goes to the bench on substitutions  and that every player on the floor gets a drink of water during timeouts.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

I think you're right about Tony Allen.  Maybe the reason they went after Posey was because they were unsure about Tony.  Posey's numbers were not really any better than Allens.

Plan B is Plan A: Sign players with low risk, high reward potential. Posey and House were low risk, high reward players last year ... but as much when the needed more $ more years.

Danny needs the guys who are hungry and willing to play for zip.

There are a few options ... a healthy TA at a 1 yr vet minimum.

A healthy Bonzi Wells at a 1 yr vet minimum ....

I'd say Bonzi is my surprise pickup ... Darius might be too much of a stretch. The idea is more players, more depth ... all for short money. That is the formula.

Use the MLE to sign Arroyo and Thomas.

Sign Ross to min  (defense)

Sign Herrmann to a one year min (for a shooter)

1. Who is Harmana?
2. Scal is bad, if you think he's not bad it's probably because you forgot what he plays like due to him never seeing the court. But I assure you he's bad.
3. I completely agree about continuing to go after undervalued hungry players. This has been Ainge's mantra (although he wasn't able to put it into place much in the past because the C's were bad). I think Bonzi is a good option, people have slept on TA (although I don't see much way that he gets any part of the MLE), Livingston and Miles for injury reasons. Also I'd love to see Gomes or West return to Bean town
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

I'm not sure what Plan B is, but having the full MLE gives us a lot more flexibility this year to fill our needs.  With PJ Brown retired, Tony Allen and Eddie House still questionable and Sam Cassell proving to be a total failure... we are in severe need of some capable players stepping in.  We could use a solid backup point guard.  We need some size that can contribute.  And honestly I look at the big picture here.  Big Baby is kinda "meh" and Leon Powe probably deserved a little more minutes (he was incredibly solid as a backup).  But Powe aint a center.  We might even see Powe get some of Posey's minutes next year.   So that MLE gives us the ability to sign a big capable big man.  We don't know what the free agents are asking.  If we get Posey (a solid roleplayer) our full 5.8 million all we'd have left was vet minimum contracts to offer.   We'd sit back as our holes likely went unfilled and we were left with a broken roster.    Now if we need to give 2 mil to someone like Chris Anderson or Lue or Miles or whoever... we can.  2 mil here... 2 mil there... 1.8 mil there... who knows.   Bill Walker can be signed to a 3 year deal (preserving his bird rights in the event that he breaks out in the next couple season)...

I have faith in Ainge.   We'll see what happens here.   This gives us future flexibility and immediate flexibility.   4 years 25 mil for James Posey would have been a mistake, in my opinion.

Wells is not taking the vet mininum.  I say it's time to roll the dice with Miles for the minimum or pursue Matt Barnes.

Bonzi Wells?? Bonzi is the kind of player who can singlehandedly put his own team out of the playoffs. Give him 10 minutes in an elimination game and there's a good chance that he'll kill you. Darius Miles? Geez... he was already a bad player before a career ending injury and hasn't played a basketball game in 2 years.

It sounds ridiculous, but Tony Allen is one of the best unrestricted free-agents still available in the market right now. But I've trouble imagining a team winning the NBA finals with Tony as the 6th man.

Bostjan Nachbar 2 years, $6 million.

Matt Barnes 2 years, $6 million.

Tyronn Lue 1 year, vet minimum.

It leaves us thin up front, but that's not too bad a scenario.
