I like Youk as a player and is real nice with the glove but this is a deal you have to make imo. Youk isnt far anyway from big bucks himself and tex offers you much more pop

I too was shocked when Gammons dropped this during the ESPN game last night. Heard no rumours at all.

With Tex being a free agent next year, no way is he worth Youk. If he was locked up for a couple years to come, I would do it.

As for Holliday, his numbers away from Coors Field are pretty ordinary. Not sure he's the Manny replacement.

If true this is a NO BRAINER.  I love Youk, Hansen's got big potential, but Tex is huge insurance if Papi can't come back strong.  Especially if we can lock him up long term.

Ideally I'd love to get Holliday and lock him up, and not pick up Manny's option next year, however if Papi was to come back strong this season the OF would be full (Manny, Ells, Drew) with Papi anchoring the DH slot.

Youk is better defensively.  He's gold glove caliber at 1st and 3rd.  I would go for Holliday as a Manny replacement.  But this year I think you stand pat.

Holliday has not been a good hitter outside of his own ballpark.

I'd do this trade in a heartbeat. God knows Youk is playing amazing this year, but if you look at career numbers, he is clearly playing over his head. Texiera has put up great numbers for 6 or 7 years now, has won 2 gold gloves to Youkilis' 1 and simply has much more potential than Youk. Imagine that lineup. I just wish this was likely to actually happen.

I think the fact that Youk also plays third makes him key to the sox plans going forward.  Once lowell is done i see Youk moving over to third especially because the sox have a promising prospect in their system right now playing first.  Lars Anderson is their third ranked prospect right now and he is a first baseman.

The only reason to keep Youk is $$$

I'd do it in a nano second.

The problem with making that trade, is that Youkilis is probably a better all around baseball player right now then Texiera.  Youkilis has a much much higher OPS (over 100 pts).  Texiera is better at hitting home runs, but Youk has more extra base hits.  Youk's d is also fantastic (so is texiera).  If texiera were to take the money and leave next year (assuming a trade) you are left with nothign at 1b, whereas we have Youk for the foreseeable future.  IT is also important to note that looking at Texiera's career numbers that he has played in GREAT hitters parks.

The trade is not worth it.  At first, going really on name basis i was saying why didnt we do it.  After looking it over, good for the Sox for saying no.

Before this season you'd have to say Teixeira is better. I'm not a big stat guy but Youkilis' BABIP this year is .341, so now would be a good time to sell high on him. The only real reason not to do it  is the salary situation. But if you can negotiate a 4-5 year extension with Teixeira I'd think you have to take the deal.

As a Braves fan I have come to realize Tex will be gone next year, however I'm not sure I want Youk and Hanson for him.  It isn't a bad trade, I just think if the Braves actively shopped Tex they would get better offers.

Dumb move, youkilis is a redsox for life. He will also demand less money than teixera. Youkilis at first is top 3 1b right now no doubt

Youkilis no doubt deserves a yearly rate of 9-11 million but of course the sox will try to frugal their way with him.

we need to sign youk to a 5 or 6 year deal at 10 million per season, you can't deny he can hit, he is clutch, he has championship experience and only 1 error in i don't know how many games. He gets it done

as players, and especially at the bat, I like Tex over Youk....but with the success the Sox have had last 2 years, plus the fact that Tex is gonna be a free agent, I dont have a problem passing on this deal.....now if Tex was locked up for a couple of years, Id be more willing to do it...

Youk at first is a top 3 1B right now?  You can't just look at current numbers.  Is Nate McLouth one of the top 10 OFs in the league?  No.

For first basemen, I'd easily rather have Fielder, Pujols, Texeira, Morneau, Derrek Lee and maybe Ryan Howard all over Youk.  I realize that Howard isn't hitting well currently, but his career .279 average and incredible OPS of .972 make me think he'll turn it around.

For those of you saying youk is having a better season, you should know that Tex is known for turning things on after the allstar break.  Note that it is a shorter season post than pre all star break so these post #s are all with 110 less games.
