CELTICS SIGN O'BRYANT
Posted by Marc J. Spears, Globe Staff July 11, 2008 03:38 PM
The Celtics have signed Warriors free agent center Patrick O'Bryant to a two-year deal, according to NBA sources. The 7-foot-0, 260-pounder was the ninth overall pick out of Bradley in the 2006 NBA Draft by Golden State, but played sparingly in two seasons. The Celtics worked out O'Bryant, who is expected to backup center Kendrick Perkins, a week ago at their training facilty in Waltham.-30-

Why not.  Give the guy a chance.  The Warriors system was not at all suited toward his abilities.

WOW...  Do you have any idea what the contract is?

He could be a good player.  KG just needs to get in his head.

Are you kidding me?

Are you freakin' kidding me?

What the heck? Aghhhhhhhh! Why?

What a waste of a roster spot. Bring Pollard's injured behind back to sit on the bench, at least he'll bring something worthwhile to the team.

Wow, indeed. As long as we're not using MLE or LLE money to sign him, it's a low-risk, high-reward signing. We definitely needed a legit 7-footer on the team.

Someone needs to lock him in the gym over the summer with Cliff Ray and the strength and conditioning coaches.

i hated the pollard signing last year, and i do not like this one either. would like to hear the figures, but this kid, by all accounts, is terrible.

Has anyone watched this kid play?  Should we be upset over this signing?  I'm willing to wait and see how he does.

Rondo/Pruitt
Allen/Giddens
Pierce/Walker
KG/Powe/Scal
Perk/BBD/O'Bryant

Looks good to me. Get Posey and House back and lets play ball.

I saw a few games last year - he wasn't impressive but wasn't completely awful.  I wouldn't have had a lasting impression were it not for all the chatter on this 'ere blog last year - i made it a point to watch this guy.

I just clamored for Kwame, but if this kid came on the cheap, he's real young and hasn't proven himself useless yet like KB...so I guess it's decent pickup.

At least we have some real news on here for a change.
God bless and good night!

If this is a vet min contract, why not sign him? He could be good insurance.

But if Danny had to use the LLE or part of the MLE, I'll be ...um..... upset. We need to use that $$ on players that are a lock to crack the rotation.

He's an upgrade over Pollard and a downgrade from PJ Brown.  However, he' is long, and big, and very young.  Unless PJ came back, we weren't going to get someone of his quality.
