Good news if it's true.  It would show a lot about Posey and his relationship with his teammates.

The teammate thing has to be a factor here. The thing where Posey hugged each of the starters before tip-offs last year was a clear sign that he has a strong bond with these guys.

Maybe Ubuntu will be the gift that keeps on giving...

yeah Posey did that in Miami too, so I think he just likes giving big hugs (and who doesn't like a good hug now and again)

I agree I think personnel too.  Houston already has Shane Battier (a younger version) and every team needs one guy like Posey/Battier but two?  And I just wasn't feeling the Lakers (plus it seems inevitable they will find a way to get Artest...who is a better version of Posey, and they have Ariza off the bench)   The Cavs though his hometown didn't have a specific spot in the rotation for him, he'd have to play SG because with Lebron he wasn't getting many minutes at SF.  Which leaves N.O. which was the only situation that concerned me as far as him going somewhere else.  Boston makes/made the most sense.

I wouldn't trust hoopsworld too much. They reported a week ago that Maggette was signing with San Antonio so I don't think this means anything.

Yeah, agreed.  I don't want to see people get their hopes up and then end up with the metaphorical "stomach punch" if this isn't true.  Hoopsworld isn't very reliable; as best as I can tell, they simply glean rumors from around the internet and report them as fact.  I'll feel much better when a legit media outlet (Spears, Bulpett, Murphy, or even ESPN) reports on this.

I would be happy if true, but I won't hold my breath.  Instead I suspect this is a ploy by Posey's agent to get New Orleans (or whoever) to raise the price on Posey....

Whether it's true or not, it's quite possible that none of these other teams are offering him the money we think they are.  If anything, it makes the most sense for the Celtics to give him a long contract.  Unlike a team like Cleveland or New Orleans who is trying to build around young stars like James and Paul, the Celtics have a relatively narrow time frame.  If the Hornets don't get Posey and fall short next year, it's no big deal.  For the Celtics, falling short is a big deal.  There might not be a next year.

Furthermore, if Posey is around a year or two more than he needs to be, it'll probably be in the early stages of rebuilding.  If a team like Cleveland signs him, it could hurt their chances of winning down the road.

I totally agree that the agent is going to spin all kinds of junk to play the sides. However I don't think anyone is coming close to full MLE for 5 years. I'm even doubting for 4 years. The NBA loves youth, and athleticism. I think Posey is seen as old news, who has already peaked, and has no ceiling, yada yada yada.....

One way or the other, he'll be back in Boston. The desire on both sides is too high.

Questionable source aside, along with the details of the contract in terms of lenth, I'd be very glad as a fan and for the continuity of the core of the Celtics World Championship team returning to play together in their chase for a repeat! <crosses fingers>

WooHooo, make it so Big Game James, make it so Danny & Wyc and let's get ready for another great long season of hoops in the chase for #18 !!!

<------lookit, he's still in the picture :)

Anybody read the latest article online at the Boston Herald: "Posey Pondering"

Quote from: Boston Herald
According to his representative, Mark Bartelstein, the Celts will probably not have a chance to match the right offer.

“We’re not trying to be tough here or anything, but I just don’t think you can do that,” Bartelstein said. “It’d be totally unfair for me to do that to the other teams that are involved in this. You can’t ask them to make an offer just so you can take it back to Boston and see if they’ll match it. I think that once you’re a free agent, you’re a free agent. You have to be fair to any team that’s willing to make you an honest offer.”

Quote from: Boston Herald
Bartelstein added that the Celtics still are in discussion on a deal, but he is now waiting for other teams to get their respective houses in proper order.

“Other teams are getting into the mix and trying to free things up,” he said. “There are a lot of moving pieces. We’re just trying to make a decision on the best offer we can get.

“The teams we’re talking to right now are terrific teams. They’re all great situations.”

More posturing? It at least likely puts the lie to Hoopsworld's rumor.

Good work Walker Wiggle!! What makes no sense is that he mentions other teams putting their houses in order to see what they have left to offer. At this point doesn't just about anyone who has the ability to make a competitive offer have the full MLE or better to give.

So what is he saying? That there is a team with cap space that is willing to pay more than the MLE and trying to see just how much? Could it be that with the full 5 year MLE we are out of the running for Posey's services because the Clippers, Warriors or Grizzless are offering more?

Posey wants the 4th year at the MLE.   Nobody is offering this.

This could really drag out with these teams missing out on the chance to sign lesser players that could fill the same role.

Let's just hope that Posey doesn't hog the entire MLE so we can still have $ to pay other key backup positions(PG, SG, & Big man) Tony Allen I think will walk to a team foolish enough to throw $ at him. If we land Posey, House should follow. Cassell won't come back if he can find a home on the Nuggets roster. Pollard is done. PJ Brown will likely walk. The Birdman will be a cheap relaible back up, so we just need one more vet PG and maybe one versitale player(Brent Barry)?

Brent Barry signed with the Rockets.

Those "half-hugs" other guys
