I haven't seen this posted yet, so I thought I would; from today's article on the Carney trade in the Herald:

http://www.bostonherald.com/sports/basketball/other_nba/view/2008_07_10_Timberwolves_and_76ers_complete_trade/srvc=celtics&position=5

"McHale was asked if Carney’s talents were similar to those of Kirk Snyder, a big guard who was with the Wolves for the final weeks of this season. He said it was a valid comparison.

Snyder is a free agent and there are reports he will wind up signing with Boston."

I hadn't heard anything about Snyder coming to Boston before.  Is he our next option if Posey doesn't sign?  Will we try to sign him either way?  It just came out of the blue for me, so I was wondering if anyone had any more information on Snyder signing with Boston.  Thanks.

I like Kirk Snyder, I think he's underrated. Plays good D. I'm not sure if he's big enough to play SF though..

Looks like Giddens and Walker have some competition.

I remember watching Kirk Snyder play in college and I though this kid has all the tools to be a solid NBA player. However, Snyder has never smelled the court where ever he has been. I'm not sure what the reason for this is. From what I have seen he has a solid mid range jump shot, and plays hard D. I may have read the Snyder has a bad attitude? What is the reason Snyder has not been able to get minutes anywhere?

Yeah, I like Kirk Snyder too.  I just thought that it was weird that the Herald mentioned so mater-of-factly that he was likely to sign with Boston.  It just took me by surprise since I hadn't really heard his name in the mix with the Celtics before.

we worked snyder out i believe just before that minicamp last week or during it. they tabbed him back then as an option in case things didnt work out with posey. hes got size, he knows tom thibideouxs schemes from his time in houston. hes not a bad fallback option in my opinion.

I think the writer is assuming that since we worked out Snyder in our minicamp, that we are looking to sign him. I would take is more seriously if it was written by Bulpett or Murphy, but it was written by a writer from the Star Tribune. I would much rather bring TA back then sign Snyder.

Snyder can't shoot. Can't dribble either.  Another one of those athletes who can't play basketball very well.

Dumb and inconsistent. That's the main two reasons why nobody keeps him around and why teams keep dropping him from their rotation. He won't be a help to the C's.

He's lucky if hangs on in this league for another 12 months. He's starting to run out of chances. This will be his fifth team and his sixth head coach. None of them have been enamored with the guy. He likely will get another chance somewhere.

That Kirk may be coming to Boston does not surprise me in the least!  Danny over the last 3-4 drafts, has been enamoured with 4 players that I can think of that he was unable to draft.  The players are the following:
                Robert Swift (center)
                Kirk Snyder (shooting guard)
                Dorell Wright (small forward)
                Shaun Livingston (point guard)

So do not be surprised to see two or more of these players wearing Green next season.  They are all free agents this year.

Good and cheap replacement for Tony Allen. Plays good defense.

He's 6'6" barefoot. Posey is 6'6.5".

  • You know my methods, Watson.
if danny signs snyder, it simply means he's striking out in other areas and is simply falling back on this guy...i do NOT want him here, as noted above he's not very bright and appears to have issues.

  • The good ole days.
I like him.  I can't find the article, but one of those 'win shares' type sites reported that he was the 2nd most effective Timberwolf behind Al (I know, not saying a ton)... so I don't know if you buy into those types of analysis, but I think they are a good general look and it seems that his all around game definitely contributes.  I think he could be a valuable guy off the bench.
