Daily Dime: "… With the Duhon signing making it all the more likely Stephon Marbury is done in NY, some of the stuff we’re hearing about where Steph could land is just crazy. NY Daily News‘ Frank Isola speculated that Marbury could end up as a backup with the Spurs or Celtics. We’ll clear that one up right now: There’s NO WAY Steph is gonna be cool backing up Rajon Rondo, and he might even grumble about backing up three-time champ and Finals MVP Tony Parker since TP is younger than him. And in what world do you see Gregg Popovich and Doc Rivers even wanting to deal with Steph when they have winning formulas in place?"

This would be a trainwreck plain and simple, if there's a guy in the league I don't want near my team its Bassy's big cousin.  He's a guy who can kill chemistry both on the court AND in the lockerroom - if you didn't like Cassell, at least his teammates did, this would be like Ubuntu to the negative 1, but as the writer for the dime speculated, its unlikely to happen - I hope Steph goes to Italy as he said he wanted to finish his career there, that'd be good for everyone (except maybe the country of Italy)

I agree, but why not shed light on why you don't think this will happen?  I think not for personality reasons, Steph may actually be willing to come here (or any championship driven team) to help resurect his career, or at least have him be remembered as a winner, but I don't think the Celtics would bring in a guy with such a checkered past - by the same token though, Giddens had some supposed character issues, Birdman who the team appears to be heavily courting obviously had the drug suspensions, so bad apple in a good place could be part of Danny's belief system (Bringing in Ricky Davis isn't that much different than Steph, especially if steph takes a huge paycut)

That would make me re-think my loyalty to this franchise. He is one of the biggest punks in the history of the NBA. There is no room on any franchise for a guy like that.

I do give him credit for selling shoes (currently $8.98 at Steve and Barry's) that does show some social conscience, but yes, he has had some political issues within the NBA, but I can't think of him doing anything flat out illegal (thus the punk reference, I would say there have been worse) but yeah the fact that he seems to have forced his own trades, got at least 1 coach fired and has dissapeared (perhaps faking injury) are red flags... though again I think his reputation is no worse than Ricky Davis's when Danny traded for him, and Ricky became a solid citizen at least on the court (don't know about behind closed doors)

Half of that store seems to be Starbury-line clothing -- at least in the New York area -- and ironically, Newsday reported recently that Steve and Barry's is going bankrupt  :o

More significantly, I seem to be far from alone when I say I want no part of this guy.

I'm fine with the Birdman and even the rookie Giddens, but I think we want to avoid adding too many "bad apples." Part of the reason people say we were such a great team was that we had great character guys. So yes there might be talents out there, but we want to stay with a high character team imo. You can have 1 or 2 guys to look after, but you don't want more than that.

I've hated almost every rumor since Free Agency began! I'm sure most of my concern is unfounded, but  maybe the new champs are, in an act of hubris, fielding a Party Patrol second team!?! Let's not give Posey's extension money to Marbury, Anderson, Darius Miles and David Harrison.

SW,a lesson to be learned with guys like Marbury...recently i was watching some old Draft day programs on NBA.tv,and Stephon was probably the teariest eyed inductee in any of the drafts i watched. He seemed sincere, and wanted everyone to think he was grateful for this opportunity to play in the NBA,and look what he's been like ever since. From now on,the guy(wolf) who cries the loudest,(imo),is the guy who i trust   least. ;D

Good thing Boston isn't interested in him.

Good thing the franchise doesn't need your loyalty. They just won a championship. Whether you like Marbury's on-court play or not, to call a guy who's never been arrested for anything a punk is unfair.

So what makes you think he wasn't sincere and grateful for his opportunity to play in the NBA?

I'd be fine with Starbury so long as he signed for the veterans' minimum and agreed to hand wash Rajon Rondo's sweaty jocks after every practice.

I'd be utterly shocked if Danny added this particular locker-room cancer to the team.  Whatever you think of Zeke's work in NYC, Marbury proved (yet again) last year he's a me-first guy, the absolute opposite of what the Celtics are all about.
