I'd be utterly shocked if Danny added this particular locker-room cancer to the team.  Whatever you think of Zeke's work in NYC, Marbury proved (yet again) last year he's a me-first guy, the absolute opposite of what the Celtics are all about.

See, this characterization has merit and there is evidence to this. I just can't stand the people who refer to a guy who has never been in trouble off the court as a punk, but give guys like Kobe a free pass.

I would be shocked if Danny signed Marbury. Plus there were reports that Garnett and Marbury didn't get along when they were both in Minnesota. Even if Danny wanted to give Marbury a shot, Garnett would probably advise Danny not to do it. I prefer Jason Williams out of all the free agent point guards from other teams out there.
The Celtics roster for next year should be a lot clearer a week from today. I can't wait to see what Danny does!!

You must be new around here, because Kobe certainly doesn't get a free pass on this site...

The quote you critize is dead on, btw.  Stef is me-first.  He lead his hometown Knicks into the toilet and made 20+ million a year in the process.  Horrible horrible idea bringing him here.

Wait a minute, the quote you're referring is one that I'm phrasing. I'm agreeing that he is me-first. I just don't agree with the characterization of him as a punk just because he is a bad teammate.

I'm not. I meant more the MSM and fans in general. The national media is more than willing to call Marbury a thug/punk but coronate Kobe at the same time. Who was the one accused of rape?

Well, Marbury was also accused of sexual abuse by Anucha Browne Sanders.  She said he abused a female staff member, although I don't recall the details of her testimony.  Sanders settled for 11.5 million, as you may recall.

Marbury may be a "me first" player, but I can't imagine anyone more "me first" than Sam Cassell was last year. Cassell looked for his own shot first, second and third.

That would make me re-think my loyalty to this franchise. He is one of the biggest punks in the history of the NBA. There is no room on any franchise for a guy like that.

Good thing the franchise doesn't need your loyalty. They just won a championship. Whether you like Marbury's on-court play or not, to call a guy who's never been arrested for anything a punk is unfair.

First of all, they do need my loyalty. If you aren't aware, the Celtics pay these big salaries off of the fans. I have spent more money the last 30 years than most non-Boston area guys you've seen. Where will all these band-wagon fans be if we go through another 22 year stretch?! They won't be spending money on a 24 win team like I did last year.

Since I know you know all this, I am assuming you are also wise enough to realize the point of my comment. I have been a Celtics fan since before many of the guys on here were even born. If I was really going to stop being a fan I would have done it a long time ago. The point I was making, which I know you got, was that this would be a huge slap in the face to Celtics fans. You don't follow up a championship team by bringing in a team killer.

If being arrested is the only qualification for being called a punk then it would be a much smaller and less-accurate list. I didn't call the guy a criminal. I said the guy was a punk and from the look of it I am FAR from the only person on here to feel that way. Like it or not, Marbury is a punk. His play is his most valued commodity. If it weren't for his talent, he'd be in a much different place right now.

By the way. You'll never see me giving Kobe a free pass. He is one of the biggest punks there is. It is nice and convenient that he is a Laker, because it's easy to hate them both. How you can feel Kobe is a punk but not Starbury baffles me.

There are usually some flame wars on Celticsblog, but this one is a non-starter. You are basically arguing about what the word "punk" means.

Does anyone want him on the team? I say no.

Never fear, this is idle speculation from Frank Isola, who is not regarded as having very strong inside sources anyway. Vescey calls him out on rumors all the time, and often makes fun of his column.

However, if the Knicks buy him out, I would not be surprised to see the Lakers try to pick him up. After all, the Zen master thinks he can get anyone to be productive.

Cassell doesn't have the rep of being locker room poison. Marbury does.

But on the court?  We don't want either of them.

No thanks.  Steph is a cancer... say what you want about cassell on the court but at least he was liked by his teammates.  Steph hasn't won anywhere.  He (allegedly) blackmailed his coach this year to prevent him from being benched.  No Thanks

starbury is like kevin qarnetts best friend... (...)

Where have you been for the last 10 years or so? Since Marbury requested a trade from Minny because that town was "too small for both of us". Or when he said that Amare had already surpassed Garnett? Or when Garnett called him "jealous"?

Anyway, if the Knicks buy out Marbury, it may be very good news for them: he left New Jersey and the Nets made the Finals the following year; he left Phoenix and the Suns made the Conference Finals the following year...

Thee have been some really awful ideas since we won the title.

While the worst was resigning Gerald Green, Marbury is very, very close to that one.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."
