Ainge is trying to steal him.

With the Clippers going after Davis, they will have to renounce Magette.  No sign and trade.

No team with a lot of cap room looking for a player like him.

I would bet this was not the plan coming into FA.

Although he must be expecting the full MLE for 5 years. I didn't think the Clippers wanted to keep him. You could feel the writing on the wall for the past couple seasons. I was always surprised they never traded him.

I'd rather have Posey.  And my guess is that B-diddy walked away from 18 million to become a Laker, not a Clipper, so I don't see Maggette settling for the MLE.

Maybe Maggette likes Doc and would like to be a part of a championship-caliber squad and try to sign a 2 year deal maybe? This could raise his stock for a final signing?

Haha, sounds contrived, and doubtful. But everything always seems to be, when the unexpected arrives!

The only way I could see it happening is in a scenario like this, plus with a player option year or two as an insurance policy (basically what we did with Posey) in case he hurts his value.  But I don't see it happening, Maggette still wants to be a star in the league I think, and can get a MUCH larger role in quite a few places.

Of course, he was a 6th man on that Duke team, maybe it sounds appealing...

Still much rather have Posey though.

I doubt Magette takes the contract. I think he could probalby make more elsewhere. Even if he were to accept I still want Posey if he agrees to the MLE for 3 years. I know Maggette can score and rebound, but can he defend like Posey can? and I doubt he can spread the floor like Posey either.

Skill wise Maggetter is better than Posey, but Posey is the better fit.

if he signs, my guess is Tony Allen probably should get his locker cleared out
That may be a foregone conclusion either way.

Zero harm in making the offer.  I'm a fan of Maggette's and hope he gets to play on a decent team at some point in his career.
Yup

The only way this makes sense for Boston if they have some crazy plan to trade Ray and play big. Why on earth would they sign a 2 guard of his ability as a backup to Ray/PP? I think he will sign with Orlando though as I don't see him being backup fiddle... Maybe they are trying to gain a tiny bit of leverage on Posey?!

Yeah, no harm in the offer.... but c'mon, a guy is not going to go for under $6 mil coming off a 22-5 season.

The one thing I absolutely love about his game is that he gets to the line like a machine.  Him and Pierce paired together would mean a lot of bonus for the Cs.

I'll be the first to admit it openly:  I'd rather have Maggette than Posey for the same money.

The owner, Sterling, loves Maggette. Not sure the writing is on the walls yet, he's been reluctant to let him leave in the past.

Are any of the teams under the cap really going to offer Maggette a big contract?  Doubtful.  Which means, if he doesn't resign with the Clippers, a MLE deal with Boston might be the best offer he gets.  He can either suck it up and take a longterm deal, and he's young enough and good enough to make that worthwhile to Boston, or he takes a 1 year with a player option to go back on the FA market next year.

This is a smart move by Ainge.  I'm sure they'd rather have Posey with a 2 or 3 year deal, but Maggette's probably the best alternative is Pose walks for more money.

No question. Maggette is more talented than Posey overall. I don't think he fits into the team and fills the same role, but of course you take him for the same $.

I'll say it too actually.

Highly doubtful he accepts an MLE deal. Though he was lobbying earlier for Orlando and he's well aware that they only have the MLE to offer. So, who knows?
