   In the summer of 2010 Lebron James, Chris Bosh and Dwayne Wade will file for free agency creating a huge market of franchise changing players. These players will bring the value of Ray Allen’s expiring contract through through the roof.

   For this reason Ray Allen will be the first of the 3 all-stars to go. It’s just a matter of to what team? What’s coming back? And when his contract expires would he welcome the opportunity to come back to Boston in a reduced role and price?

It'll depend on how Ray is playing and on how the team is playing. I can see it being done during the offseason, but it'll depend a lot on how Ray performed this year. It's highly unlikely to be done through the year, especially if he's playing well and the team is performing.

We package Ray with Scal and get someone $25mil off their books for 2010.  It also doesn't necessarily mean that we need to get another SG.  We should see how Giddens and Pruitt turn out. If they could fill a whole at the 2 we could look at an upgrade at the 5.  We have to see how Perk and our young guys pan out.  If we just let RayRay off the books we'll be over the cap and then we can't do anything.

For right or wrong, I have a hard time believing that Ainge trades Allen after back to back championships.  And who can blame him?  What type of message would that send to Pierce and Garnett about the direction of the franchise?  What does that say to a guy like Rondo looking to re-sign a long term extension?  What does that say to potential free agents looking to come in as the Big Three leave? 

Personally, I'd rather see them re-up Ray, give him another year or two with Pierce and Garnett, continue to develop the young talent, then either try to trade all three of them at the end, or let all three expire and simply sign free agents to replace them. 

For as much as Red gets criticized for not trading the Big Three around '90, he didn't because he didn't want to get a reputation for a franchise that did that.  Moreover, the deaths of Bias and Lewis had more to do with the decline of the franchise than not trading away the Big Three.  The Big Three could have rode off into the sunset together and the C's still would have been good had those two lived.  So we don't necessarily need to trade anyone to segue to a bright future.

  The thing about Micheal Redd is that with the Bucks acquisition of Richard Jefferson and Boguts improvement they might be in position by the that time to make a deep playoff run as oppose to going the opposite direction and clearing cap space (I.E. trading Redd).

Also, Redd has an Opt out clause in his contract for the summer of 2010.

I completely agree with you... I just don't think trading Ray would be in the best interest of the Celtics, unless the team is underperforming or Ray is underperforming.

I doubt it, we are very setimental in Boston about our players.  Towards the end of Parrish's career we still could have got decent value for him (not a superstar but a good role player) but we let him walk away.  KG brought respect back to this franchise I would doubt he would be traded again. Now he may walk away as a free agent, but I don't think he will be traded.

I wouldn't hold my breath on Giddens or Pruitt as NBA starters, if they ever start for this team, its because we're tanking, something I don't think any of us want to see
