Interesting. I definitely see the potential for these guys to take less the next go round. I think their responses to negotiations the summer before their contracts expire will determine what happens. For example, if Ray will sign a 3 year, $18-20 million extension, I think we'll give it to him. But if he wants a little more money or years, we might start talking to teams about getting something of value for him. Pierce I think is much more likely to take less money to bring in more talent and retire a Celtic.

As for being veterans teaching guys, it depends on the next few years. Honestly, if they win another chip or two, these guys might be more than happy to just retire. Pierce is definitely somebody who I think will want to retire a Celtic. He knows he can be seen like a Russell, Cousy, Bird, Havlicek type who started and ended his career in Boston, brought along a championship and a lot of All Star seasons and wants to go out a Celtic. This is regardless of how the Celtics are his last few years.

However, for KG and Ray, especially if they win again, they will not have the incentive to stay on and be a teacher in Boston for a less-than-competitive team. If we have other stars in place at that time, and we're actually contending, then absolutely, I think they'd stick around. But if not, and if they've already won their titles, why stick around when they're no longer contributors to a contender?
Go Celtics.

perhaps ainge had something like this in mind when he made the offer to maggette?

not that ainge would trade allen now. even with maggette that would be foolish. but in 2 years or so, if allen declining, maggette would provide some scoring and not force the celtics to hang on to a declining allen.

but this is all just speculation. which is half the fun of reading this board. 맞죠.
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

For any of you cap-mavens out there, realistically, what would the Celtics have to do in order to pursue someone like Lebron, or Wade. Just cap wise, I know its an improbability, I'm just curious what they would have to do. How far over the cap will they still be? A TP for anyone that can break that down for me.

Thanks!

In order to be in position to sign James or Wade as a  free agent in 2010, the Celtics would need to trade Paul Pierce or KG for expiring contracts and let Ray Allen's contract expire with no re-up.

The Celtic's payroll is - 71,000,000 Mil.

The Cap this year from what I've read is - 58,000,000

71,000,000 Payroll

- 19,000,000 RA
- 20,000,000 PP
