I AM A FOOL.

I am a Celtics' fan of 45 years who thought the Lakers would win this series in 6.
I want the Celtics to win so much that when they get behind I get angry and irrational.
I thought that Phil (the cadaver) Jackson was a better coach than Doc Rivers.
I only watched the first and fourth quarters last night. Checked ESPN for scores during the other two quarters.
I (like a lot of you) thought Ray got old overnight - he now may win series MVP.
I thought Kobe would singlehandedly will the Lakers to the championship.

My son taught me a lesson last night that I will never forget as we head to father's day.  While I went upstairs to get some work done in my office, he stuck with the game and the C's.  He kept coming upstairs to give me highlights and never lost his enthusiasm.  My 13-year-old son taught me a great lesson last night.  It was awesome to watch the 4th quarter with him and high five each other when the game ended.

Anyone want to join my club?

I AM A FOOL!

(Anyone know where I can catch the whole game on TV or on the web?)

Although I never gave up, I am proud of you for admitting your wrongs. TP for being humbled.

Great memories you'll have Vinnie.  I was 13 when the Celts won the championship in `81 and I associate a lot of that with watching the games with my Dad (of course he never bailed on the team ;) ).

I was watching the game alone last night getting hushed by my wife to not wake the kids.  I was swearing out loud in the first half, and yelling out "YES" in the 2nd half.

Great night.
Yup

Chief -- you stuck with it all night, as did many of the regulars here.  While they never cut it to 10 by the half -  ;D, did that really matter?  I gotta tell you, kids are the greatest things in life.  Especially when you get to watch special sporting events with them.  Watching the Patriots Superbowl wins and Sox World Series wins with my son has been awesome.  But, nothing will beat the Celtics winning the championship.  They have been my number 1 team forever.  Again, I am so sorry I bailed on them.  Forgive me, Red.

vinnie, last night did not make you a fool, the fact that you are the one person in america who still believes the NBA refs do a good job makes you a fool.  ;D

my quote to my brother last night in the second quarter: "just rest everyone and get ready for game 5." so while i watched the entire game, i am a fool as well. but i am a happy fool!

one more win, guys!

I'll be honest (and this isn't an attack), you've been one of my least favorite posters on here, because of the constant negativity, so its nice that you are finally seeing the light - your mea culpa is accepted, and hopefully a lesson is learned - I'll even throw you a TP - I can understand that as a 45 year long fan, this team hasn't been perfect or up to the exceptionally high standards you've put on them, but they are our team, they are resilient, they absolutely love to play and love to win - they bring passion and energy, plus unmatchable skill - its been a pleasure for a younger fan like me to finally get to watch a team like this and call them mine, I think thats why I take offense when you (and others) have been harping so strongly on the negative - we're 1 away from green 17, and its time to keep the positivity up

It's ok Vinnie, nice post!  I understand bailing last night after the first quarter, but did you honestly think the Lakers would win this series? Wow, you(and so many others) are a fool ;D  But that's alright, I'm also a long time fan and I blame the Red Sox pre-2004 for making us so negative. It's hard to shake that pessimism.

Anyway, I'm glad you and your son got to enjoy that amazing comeback together. Happy Father's day and championship #17 Sunday.

You can see the game on ESPN360.  If you have a verizon account, it is free.

I admit, I turned off the game after the first quarter.

My thinking was, "I've got to wake up the next morning at 5:30, I can't watch this team lose by 20 and still get 5 hours of sleep."

Does that make it better or am I officially stripped of the "true fan" tag on me?  I need the official dethroning ceremony on celticsblog.com before I can earn the status again.

My friend, you're not the only one who gave up on the Celtics last night.  After that horrid first and second quarter, I thought for sure that the game, and the series had been lost.  I continued to watch half-heartedly, but gave up on the game as a lost cause.  So don't feel bad.  Things changed once House and Posey started hitting those long rangers.

Sobering admission, vinnie, you fool  ;)

Thanx for sharing your tale contrasting the enthusiasm of youth vs the pessimism (realisiam ?) of middle age, which is what is the best that our rooting for sports teams at their best can put us in touch with and reteach.

In the spirit of Ubuntu we all struggle with the same inner forces!

TP, for the post and reteaching me the lessons, even though I called you out for being such a bummer in the game thread while I too struggled to keep my own hopes and enthusiasm alive!

-Gooo Celtics, onwards to banner #17-

I have never ever ever ever ever turned off a game no matter how bad it has gotten.  I just can't do it.  In fact, the best I could muster yesterday was closing my eyes during one of the PP's free throws in the fourth quarter.  I re-opened my eyes on the second free throw.

I got home last night after being on the road for 13 nights.

As I was exhausted, I literally went to sleep before tip off - only to wake up and turn on the TV to find out the score.  I turned the TV on just as House hit the shot to take the lead... 4:09 left in the game.  I never fell back to sleep until after 2:30.

I love this team!!!!!
I love my kids, call me a sap - it's true.
