Everybody thought the Lakers would win, with the exception of 90% of Celticsblog posters (who picked the C's to win due more to their undying loyalty than their objective assessment - sorry, it's true).

I disagree that you couldn't objectively pick the Celtics.  As I said before the series started, we have one of the best defenses in league history, literally.  We won 66 games in the regular season.  We had a top ten scoring offense, and three legitimately great players.  There was absolutely no reason to objectively think that the Lakers would run away with this, especially after how we played in Detroit.

Don't forget our 2-0 record vs the Lakers during the season, and the fact that Ray was past his slump...

I think there was a lot of good reasons in picking either side as the favourite for the series.

What I was amazed at was how large a percentage of people/analysts picked the Lakers.

Agree - you didn't have to be a homer to pick the Celtics, but the media and basketball community sure made me feel like one for doing so.  The Lakers did bulldoze through their conference, and we stumbled through ours, but we were far from last year's Cavs - we have a lot of advantages on the Lakers that most "experts" didn't even notice or pay attention to.  Well, they're noticing now.

Personally,i have been aboard with the Celtics winning since the "Texas Swing",after seeing how they played on the road aganist the west late in the season,i saw that good defense was much better than racehorse-type offense, with little defense like most of the west coast teams play.Asi stated in a previous thread, when you see 2 west coast teams matched up,you get the impression, that they are the better teams, because of the high scoring, and easy offense going on,but once they faced some teams in the east,it was a different story. So, ive always had faith in our team, especially once they passed Cleveland.I knew once they defeated Lebron, they could handle Detroit,as long as we had homecourt advantage. At home,we have been awesome all season,so why wouldn't we win the east. Now back to the defenseless west, who is not as good as the Green machine.

And I think we have yet another case in point as to the Power of the Main Stream Media forming public opinion it was totally biased for alterior motives IMO!
"Indefatigable on Defense, defines these Celtics"

My point isn't that you couldn't pick the Celtics objectively (you clearly make a good argument for doing so), but rather that most bloggers here cannot separate their passion and desire for a Celtics championship from their ability  to analyze the matchup objectively. I'm not saying that they aren't smart...just that they bleed green so much that they could never admit they aren't the better team in a close matchup. So when the series is over, the Celtics fans shouldn't be bragging about their prescience because their predictions weren't that objective to begin with.

And I do think that there are good reasons to think that the Lakers would destroy the Celtics. Yes, we were impressive against Detroit, but Atl & Cle were different. Who's to say that we wouldn't revert back to the old form? And LA was cruising, they have the MVP and one of the most successful coaches of all time. Those are 3 really good objective reasons to choose them over us.

Well, I can seperate my desire to see the C´s win and my ability to analyze the matchups...and I received criticism from other fans for calling it like I see it in the past. I am not afraid to be in the minority with my opinion.

I picked the Celtics in 4.

In the summer of 2017, I predicted this team would not win a championship for the next 10 years.

3 down, 7 to go.

I was just hoping to understand the following problem:

If 90% of the fans of each team predict that their team will win and the series ends up being one sided, are the winning team's fans smarter than the losing team's fans (i.e., were their predictions more objective)?

My answer: NO

Proof: Assume that both teams' fans are objective in their analysis and predict that their team will win. If the contest is one-sided then that implies that one team is clearly better than the other team. So it is irrational (i.e., not objective) for the losing team's fans to have picked their team to win. This is a contradiction. Thus one team's fans aren't objective. I'm not going to accept the fact that the Celtics fans are objective and the Lakers fans aren't - this is a silly notion. So both teams' fans have to be subjective in their prediction. QED

I got home last night after being on the road for 13 nights.

As I was exhausted, I literally went to sleep before tip off - only to wake up and turn on the TV to find out the score.  I turned the TV on just as House hit the shot to take the lead... 4:09 left in the game.  I never fell back to sleep until after 2:30.

I love this team!!!!!

on the road for 13 nights? is there a secret life to sshorefan that we should know about? Well thanks for waking up at the right moment, you should sleep through the next game too and wake up around 10 minutes left, just to be safe....

I absolutely woke up this morning not sure if what I watched last night was real, making it even sweeter in the morning =)

LOL -- thanks for the smile --

Yes indeed I do have a secret life in fact I work for.....what?  Can't say anything?  Why not?  Oh, clearence?  Ok.  Um, I was at back to back trade shows in Las Vegas.  That's my story and I am sticking with it!!   ;)
I love my kids, call me a sap - it's true.

No one can truly separate their being a fan from being truly objective. If you don't admit that then you are even more of a homer than you know. We are all biased towards our team to an extent. Sure I can separate last year the fact that we weren't in the leagues with San Antonio and such, but I sure thought that we were a playoff team going in. In retrospect we weren't even close to  that level even without PP going down. The fan in me though sure convinced myself it was so. The key is to realize it and enjoy things anyway! There is nothing wrong with raising your expectations as a fan because that is what makes it so sweet when you're right.

Just like my 10+ pages of being on an island about Eddie House vs. Sam Cassell a month ago. It is a lot sweeter having stuck to my guns completely even with a small percentage of valid points I wasn't willing to accept.

Simply put, the Celts played in a weak Conference. The Lakers in a competitive one. Laker fans even though we beat them twice this season thought they were better. What a shock it must be for them, along with Jack Nicholson. Anyone who follows basketball if they're honest with themselves know the Celts have the best threesome going on one team because the meshed together.

I would say our fans got these points down and the Laker fans didn't. The Laker fans clearly are not objective.

Yogi say's, it ain't over till it's over.
