LOL.  ;D Check out this Laker Fan Board thread.

"just a few things

1. i don't think there is a regulation on the tightness of rims. Its home court advantage. Think of when you play at the parks. If you're a shooter, you would prefer those "single rim" hoops, and if you were playing against a shooter you'd prefer a "double rim" hoops.

2. sasha was probably talking about depth perception. each gym is a bit different, another aspect of home court advantage.

3. i can't believe some people here are actually talking about boston switching rims and using force fields and such. I know its sarcasm and not serious (at least i hope not), imagine if a celts fan came in and saw this thread. or imagine if we went to a spurs forum and saw threads on the lakers switching rims and stuff. Oh god i hope no one from boston sees this thread."

So I saw the thing on Sportscenter.

First off, from what I gathered, they were talking about the distance of the rim from the base.  Basically it is the same thing you hear all the time about having to get used to shooting with a different background.

Second, even if the C's could "tighten the rims", why would they?  The C's are a jumpshooting team just as much as the Lakers.  More often than not, they live and die with jumpshots.

With their defense, the C's have a much better shot at beating the Lakers by slowing down their offense just enough for their shooting to catch up, than to make it so neither team is able to shoot very well.

Priceless.  ;D ;D ;D

Here are some more:

Did anyone notice if the Celtics had shots go in and out heart break like that? I don't know . I am going to pay close attention in the next game and see if the Celtics have shots go in and out like that. It definitely was something different then I had ever seen. And I wouldn't be surprised to find out they were messing with the rims. These guys will do anything to get an edge.

In fact they messed with the parquet floor in the old Boston Garden. That is a known story so don't dismiss it.

I doubt you'd have to change the entire rim. That arena is so new you could probably adjust it without anyone even noticing it. Think about it.....they allow fewer points in their building than any other team in the NBA. The Lakers have the most potent offense in the league and only score 80-something. I'm just saying.....alot of those shots bounced around and came back out

But according to a fan who was actually at the game, Ray Allen was doing pull ups on our net.

I have never seen a bunch of nut jobs like Lakers fans. Hilarious. I'm quite sure Boston's already won the "reality based fan base" award.

Btw, a small trivia: of course there is a regulation on the tightness of rims, 18 inches in diameter.

Just took the time to read the whole thread.  I recommend it to everyone here, if it were a book it would be a top-seller, in Boston at least.  Priceless stuff.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

So if its the rims in Boston how come the Lakers shot 35.4% at home versus the Celtics?

If the C's rims are that much different, don't you think they would then have a more difficult time on the road since everyone else's rims would then be different than theres?  So what was up with the best road record in the league.... More excuses

jack nicklaus always tells how he would walk into the lovker room the week of a US open and hear guys complain about the greens being too fast, the fairways are too tight, the rough is too high, the holes are too long, the pin placements are too tough.

mentally, he would cross all those guys off his list of people he had to contend with. he knew those guys were done before the tourney even started.

Have the Lakers done, or said, anything right since they arrived in Boston?  They're acting like amateurs and the way they played game one, they look inferior to any competition the Celts faced in the East (ok, maybe not Atlanta).

Celts win big tomorrow. Tight rims prevail.
Yup

TP. This is what I have been thinking since the Lakers have been whining.

Wow! And the excuses keep coming ... I've truly never seen anything like it! (Sad) If we lose any games to the Lakers, let's do our best to not take the same (low) road.

right on.  tp

Actually, there is something with the basketball goals at the Garden.

...it has Kevin Garnett under them!

That the Celts brought their rims with them obviously.
