both teams shot on the same two rims during the game so what's their point?

Their reaction to this issue and the Pierce injury are proof positive the Lakers are beyond distracted.

Good, good sign for game two.

Keep the alibis coming, boys. Pierce's knee and the rims didn't keep your lazy, soft insiders off the backboards.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

A good player doesn't care about the rims. He will just hit his shot, get his rebound, etc. EXCUSES! That's all I can say.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
maybe if they all wore a pair of kareem's goggles they could see the rims better...

The Celtics must win game 2.  If they do, Kobe will explode.  He was already yelling at his teammates in game 1, just think what could happen if they lose game 2 as well.
"If somebody would have told you when he was playing with the Knicks that Nate Robinson was going to change a big time game and he was going to do it mostly because of his defense, somebody would have got slapped."  Mark Jackson

I was at the game, and the clever Celtics management was able to distract us with the halftime entertainment (Asian lady on high unicycle juggling bowls with her feet and head)when they changed to the "different" rims at halftime.

They must have changed them, right, since the Lakers shot 50% in the first half and 33% in the second?

Wouldn't that just mean the Celtics would have a disadvantage in LA?

I'm sure the rims are slightly different in all arenas. The background is also different. In Denver the altitude in Denver gives the Nuggets a definite advantage and time zones are different. Also, when at home players stay in their own homes while the visiting team is in a hotel. When the Celtics are home they can go to their training facility 24 hours a day. They can't do that when away from.   And I see more being made of PP's injury in the media than this rim crap. Wonder if the media is paying attention and who they're rooting for.

LOL. This is one of the worse excuses ever. I'm pretty sure rims are slightly different in every arena.

LAL is psyched out. Jackson is trying to play head games with the Celts to even things out: he's remembering an immature Pierce from the past perhaps? Implying it was theatrics or faked, hoping to take the Celts eye off the prize. Astute approach, because if the Celts can double up at home, then LAL is in a bad way. Hopefully the Celts just "bulletin board" it, and let the rest slide by. If I was Pierce, I would want to say "Well Phil said in his book that he wasn't surprised that Kobe was charged with rape, and thought Kobe was the most 'uncoachable' player, so if you guys listen to him about me, you should ask Kobe about those nuggets." - Thankfully Pierce is too mature these days to provoke LAL and Kobe in particular.

I think the only ones getting psyched out here are the Lakers. Maybe they should focus on what they need to improve on in game 2 instead of petty excuses of what happened in game 1. The only real blame for losing game 1 is on the Lakers, not what happened to Pierce or the 'rims' I just don't think the C's are paying that much attention to the whining Lakers, and they shouldn't.

I thought Kobe was so good he never hit the rim on his shots?  I mean he is   the Basketball God right?  His shots should all be swishes.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

What we need to do is get a list of all the reasons the Lakers lost according to the Lakers:

1. good looks but the bunnies didn't go in (Kobe)
2. balls bounced the C's way (Kobe)
3. Pierce faked the injury (Phil -- not a quote and not directly related, but somehow fits in here)
4. different rims (Vujacic)
5. game didn't really count as the teams were "feeling each other out" (Phil, sorta...)
6. others?
I think that the reason that they lost is that the celts are in the way to the basket, did you see the series vs. denver they make easey shoots all day and mekes all the bunnies. so they are triying to say to the celtics is please people let us shoot the ball easy and let us rebound the ball. 3 more to  the 17.
