Wow - this thread has become nonsense....
Glen Davis is allowing the starting 5 to play at a comparable level to that which they played when KG was here - his ability to nail that spot-up shot allowed the team to score 115 points in the last game...nobody should be calling him "useless" when every team in the NBA looks for a big man that can hit the open shot to open up the court for drives by perimeter players as well as getting single coverage for the low post.
What sucks about Powe's injury is that with he and KG out the team now has only Perkins actually playing in the low post. It was bad enough with KG out, as the team typically fed Powe/Perk about 1/3 of the touches they should be getting based off their efficiency.
If Davis is going to get 21 shots that's great - but this team is completely perimeter oriented right now and only KG commanded enough respect and demanded the ball enough to establish any type of post presence.
Give Powe or Perk 21 shots and I guarentee they'd be at the line 8-10 times and convert over 50% of their attempts as well - but post play is a feature offensive option and this team is led by 3 perimeter players right now - no way they were going to ride two role playing bigs on the inside, even if both were hard to contain with single coverage.
Give Davis credit - in the first game he was doing way to much dribble-driving. In game 2 he sure and heck took every set jumper that presented itself and he made 'em count.
Unfortunately, we now have exactly ONE post player left and as good as Perk's been playing, the team has to understand that they can't just go to him until he misses a shot - if Pierce, Ray, Davis, and Rondo are all allowed to miss 8-10 shots in order to get their points, someone should inform them that the post players deserve a similar chance to prove that they can be more efficient.
No Chicago player has stopped Perk in single coverage - any feature player will miss 40-45 percent of his shots in the post, but you need to draw defenses down low if you want to create consistent offense from the perimeter.
Chicago sux at defense, so Boston has gotten away with transition offense and a lot of penetration by Rondo - but if they want to put the Bulls away and have any shot at winning another round, they've got to invent some post play.
I don't think Perk can handle D Howard on the Block consistently, so they are going to have to get Pierce and maybe even Bill Walker down there some with an inverted offense using Davis' perimeter shooting to create a one-on-one scenario.
The level of defense they've been playing necessitates an effective post game - this offense is fools gold right now...
