He has made some head scratchers in the playoffs, but he sure got the right guys in the game at the right time. Key decisions I thought were:

PJ over Powe and BBD
House over Sam
Sitting Ray for a long stretch with him missing badly again. (that took guts)

Nice job all around. I think Doc is getting better along with the players.

Yeah, Doc managed the game fairly well.  He wasn't perfect, but he was adequate, and that's all most of us really ask for.

Wow! Even when you are complimenting the guy you rip him. We just won Roy!! Give the guy some credit. If he doesn't play the guys he played we don't win that one!

i actually think that one of the biggest reasons that Doc went to Posey is that  it let Pierce not have to guard LeBron and focus on his O....

the fact that Ray didn't have his shot going made the decision a little easier, but i think we all knew Ray would be back for big possessions down the stretch.

Doc coached the heck out of that game.

Nevertheless, I already see "What is Doc doing" threads in the next round...

there were a few times I was screaming for him to make changes, but he almost always made the change I suggested to my TV - playing house and Rondo together, brilliant - bringing Posey in at opportune times - sticking with PJ, leaving Sam on the bench, etc. all great moves, I'll admit I've been a doc lover all year, and it feels good to say, we're in the Eastern Conference Finals baby! All the doc haters can finally sit down for a little while, I sure hope

I'm not going to be disingenuous.  Doc was competent, not great.  I'm not lowering the bar for Doc, to the point where when he has an average-to-decent game, we sing his praises to the heavens.

All I ask is that Doc not put up roadblocks for his players.  He didn't do that tonight, so I'm happy.

If he had made the right moves earlier, the series would have been over in six.  Let's not go making statues because the head coach finally made some adjustments that have been obvious needs for about 4 games.

it's not about being disingenuous, it's about being accurate.....

to suggest that Doc just didn't set roadblocks for his players in this game, it's simply not an accurate assessment of what happened today....

Exactly.  When moves are obvious to the posters on a message board, I'm not going to go out of my way fawning over a professional coach for making those changes (for the most part) several games later.  Doc coached like a coach should.  It's kind of sad that we're forced to give him credit for that; that should be the norm, not an oddity that is especially praiseworthy.

WOW! What a bunch of complainers! He does the thing that you guys have been whining about, and then when he does you say he was just average. He didn't get in the way of his guys... If he hadn't been stupid before we would have won earlier... Hoe miserable of an attitude guys! It must be tough to never be wrong!

Doc had an excellent game tonight. We never ONCE lost the lead. We played guys the right amount of minute and put guys in at opportune times. Sticking Ray and House there at the end to hit those clutch free throws was probably the difference. Give the guy some credit. I stated that he has made some poor decisions earlier in this series and the previous one. He did however coach this one exactly right. Not just adequate.

Only got to see the first quarter, as I had to coach my son's lacrosse game (we won 9-8!).  Heard the last 1:21 in the car.  Sounded like Doc did a lot of the things posters have been asking for in the last few weeks.  Sat Ray and played Posey more, offense/defense switches, etc.  The one thing that did suprise me though was PJ Brown's play.  I never would have supported PJ playing that many minutes, so I give Doc credit for that move.  I agree with Roy, however.  How can you give a coach credit when it takes him 12 games to realie Eddie House should get minutes or 7 games to realize Ray Allen should not be playing?

so what exactly qualifies as "good coaching"?

this is absurd to suggest that when a coach makes good decisions that that is simply what is expected of a professional coach.

the double-standard applied to Doc is embarrassing for those involved in it.....but it has been going on so long at this point, that i guess results simply don't matter any more.

so what were those roadblocks? it seemed the right guys were on the court for the majority of the time tonight - the ball was in the hot man's hands - the guys responded with energy and fire, a direct reflection of the attitude the coach has put in them, and their natural winning character, and we win - what were these so called roadblocks? You can't complain about Cassell being in there, can't complain about a Rookie w/out experience, can't even complain about Ray - Doc sat him down after he proved to be innefective, then put him in when FT's were needed - this was a solid solid coaching job, and an even better performance by a team that clearly has bought in
