Unbelievable that people are still saying Doc only did an average job coaching today.  Jeff Van Gundy and Mark Jackson both said he did a great job with rotations, etc.  I will take the word of a former great coach and a future coach over any Doc credit on here.

As far as him taking all series to figure out the rotations... maybe he did take a little too long.  But sometimes it takes a few games to really figure out the other team, especially in the playoffs.  And hey, at least he made the adjustments.

It is just too bad he will never be able to do anything completely right in everyone's eyes.  Way to go Doc!  Way to go Celtics!

TP. nicely said, CletsGM....

Jeff Van Gundy is a great coach :o  Look at his playoff record with a lot of very good teams. That is not a great coach. I'll give u great commentator.

How many time have you seen coaches critical of other coaches?

Ok, let's just say I think Jeff Van Gundy was and is a very good coach.  That is based on the way I see him coaching, not on how many playoff games he won.  Plus, anyone who swings on the legs of another player to protect his own goes down in my book as a good coach.  Then again, I think Doc is a good coach, so I guess we just agree to disagree.  Which is fine, I don't even care.  I'm just so pumped still that anyone saying anything bad about Doc is just all so moot and mute.  We won the game, the series, and we are going to the ECF!  It's all good.  Say all you want about Doc.  I'm gonna celebrate!

You know I am going in for a job review with my manager soon and I sure hope that he tells me that I am doing ADEQUATE and do my job FAIRLY WELL. That is sure glowing praise.

If you finally performed your job for one day at the level that was expected of you, and you finally implemented basic and obvious changes that the general public had been dropping in your "Complaints" box for weeks, I wouldn't expect your boss to be too enthused, no.

I'm not complaining.  Doc did fine.  He implemented the changes that he should have made two weeks ago.  He deserves credit for finally recognizing what so many of us have for weeks.  He didn't sabotage his team by going to some odd rotation, and he finally played Eddie and Pierce some at off-guard, which people have been harping on since Ray started to slump.  Doc -- the professional -- finally recognized the very obvious deficiencies that many of the amateurs on here have noted for quite some time.  Kudos to him.

(And, he did make rotation mistakes tonight, and the decision not to double team Lebron hurt the team, as the announcers -- the former player and former coach -- pointed out numerous times.   I'm not going to harp on the deficiencies, though.  We won, and overall, the mistakes didn't really impede the team.  No coach is going to coach a perfect game.  However, I'm also not going to think he was overly special tonight, when he wasn't.)

ditto. If we should "blame" anybody for the win tonight, it's Paul "The Truth" Pierce.

Doc's rotations were the best I've seen from Doc in his Celtics coaching career.....

He put House in at the right time, Subbed in Rondo at the right time.... subbed in PJ at the right time..... benched Ray for most of the 4th quarter.....

Excellent, Excellent, rotations today...... ride the hot man and bench those that aren't contributing ( not just in scoring but in defense )

One thing I think Doc did that will also pay dividends was putting Ray back in the game at the end to hit those free throws. If Ray doesn't get back on track there is no way we can win the whole thing. We need his ability to spread the floor and hit big shots. Those two clutch free throws leave him with a good taste in his mouth and allow him to feel a part of this win. If he had sat the rest of the game he might have had a tougher time of the next series.

Great point, EJPLAYA.  I was thinking to myself, as much as Ray is struggling, you have to get him back in at the end, or you are just allowing him to stew even more about his slump.  Good call, Doc.  That is another great Doc attribute... he cares so much about his players, and he knows how to treat them on a psychological level.

Give Doc credit where credit is due.  He coached a wonderful game.  We rip on him all the time and justifiably on most occasions, but tonight he was spot on.  All you can ask of anyone is that they learn from there mistakes and for the last three games it appears that he has.

14 games into the playoffs, Doc finally makes an adjustment to the offense.

Doc did his job today.  He changed his rotation at home again, and once again, it worked while the Celtics were at home.

Time to move onto the next series.

and what exactly was that adjustment?

this is the same offense we have been running all season folks.

there was nothing run tonight that hasn't been run not only all season, but in THIS series...

So then you are saying he got lucky that Pierce got hot?

i wouldn't call what Pierce did today luck.

that was skill. big time.

Paul has never gotten the credit he deserves around the NBA.

today proves that he deserves the calls the way LeBron and Kobe get them.

you have to basically rip Paul's arms off to get a foul called...

that was about as big a performance as you are going to see in the playoffs this year. the way he went toe to toe with LeBron was legend making IMO.

So what did Doc do if you are giving him no credit for making an adjustment this game?

celts make ECF by knocking off defending EC champs and doc is the story?

sorry, but the biggest thing that happened today is that PP stepped up & showed some leadership.

secondary story is house & pj contributions off the bench.
but dont give the coach credit for pro athletes doing the job they're paid to do.

move on...

who guards rip?

Doc had a good game but let's not go overboard, the players bear the responsibilty for this win.

Paul Pierce was Bird-like tonight. If he was white I would have sworn that I was watching Larry Bird play only with better one on one defense.

KG must have taken the Cavs offensive rebounding numbers personally last game. He was immense on the boards.

Eddie House was the heart and soul of this team tonight. Throw the stats out he was awesome.

PJ Brown is now showing us why picking him up was such a brilliant move. I hope to see more of him.

And the rest of the team played unreal defense all series. Way to go!!

Yes, Doc had a good game but let's stop giving him to much responsibility of a win and to much blame for a loss. The players play and the will win. They proved that all year. They will continue to for the next 8 wins.

i said he did not make a change to the offense. i said we ran the same offense we have been running all year...

i think Doc coached a great game. the way he managed the end of the game running players in and out was exceptional...he had Brown scrambling.

well, to start off, most of the offense ran through Pierce instead of an occasional Garnett in the post rather than by one of our Bigs at the top of the key.....  Pierce had the ball and made all the right decisions on when to shoot or pass...
