A bit off topic, but do you guys think Philly will give JB the max extension? I think that?s the main problem Boston wanted to get out off. They would not want to deal with an ?unhappy and disrespected? JB if they did not offer him the extension. Now that problem is with Philly. Down the road they still have Maxey, Embiid, and maybe Edgecombe who they would need to pay.

Agree with Phantom, I think you would have to see how he fits in to the team, specifically Maxey and VJ. Because that's going to be the core they would be looking at post-Embiid. I would be very surprised if they signed him to an extension this season, since it would only be a one-year $70m extension they could give him. After this season they can give him a 2 year $140m extension.

Yeah what if Jaylen will only accept the max extension and the Sixers don?t feel he?s worth it?  And in three years he becomes a free agent on the open market?

The Sixers will be in the same position the Celtics would have been in. 

We might look at this trade differently then, especially if Philly flames out in the playoffs between now and then.

We didn't hear a peep out of Tatum when his brother was getting dragged through the mud by everybody with access to a microphone.  And when Jaylen was handing out his goodbyes, somebody's name was conspicuously absent. 

I think that's your smoking gun.  Not Brad.  Not even Chisholm.  We didn't save enough money on the deal for it to be ownership-driven.  I'm not even convinced that it was an analytics-driven move.  I'm sure that influenced the, erm, "value" we got back in the deal, but the Celtics seemed just fine with Brown's impact, analytics be d***ed, for ten years until suddenly they weren't. 

I'll be the one to say it:  I think Tatum wanted his team back.

If that's why the trade was made we should fire Brad.  Tatum isn't good enough to dictate the breakup of a championship core.

I still think Chisholm told Brad to do it.  He was not paying the supermax and told him to get rid of him.    Brad has not made a deal this terrible since his inception.    This as I said earlier, makes for business sense, than basketball sense.   I think they went up into the tax line to silence the fans but I think another deal is coming.

I do not think this will be for trade Murphy, I think it will be a salary dump of Hauser and cutting Banton as these will get us close to dodging the tax.  If this is not done now it will be done by the trade line.

There is a chance the trade will be expanded and although I hope this, I doubt it.

Tatum is really close with Mazzulla (also influenced the decision to hire him after Udoka) and Derrick White is best friends with Tatum too. He has more influence than people here want to admit. And I kind of get it, it's a superstar driven league and these guys have power even within organizations to dictate some things.

If Tatum wanted Jaylen to stay, he isn't getting dumped for practically nothing. No way. Same with the philosophy of chucking 3s, doesn't Tatum seem into that too?

Sorry but I strongly disagree with this notion that Tatum is just a quiet "goody 2 shoes" that just goes along with everything and doesn't challenge anything he may disagree with himself.

Sure, maybe Tatum played a role.  His voice should have been a non-factor though.  Tatum is closer to Brown than he is an MVP, and even MVPs need to be reigned in in the personnel department (see LeBron).

Is there any evidence that Tatum had a role in this though? Or are we just speculating? I can't find any evidence or even a report from a credible source that he had something to do with it. I listened (endured) listening to Felger and Mazz all yesterday and they didn't bring it up either. Not to say it's not true, but I can't find evidence.

I'm happy to speculate like everyone else but I'm also reluctant to go into the season blaming Tatum for something he might not have done, which would affect my perception of him based on what might be a falsehood. But I guess everyone makes their own decision based on what they like/don't like about a player.
