One important question - why is Murphy on the trading block? Or is this more, Brad wants him and NO is willing to be blown away by an offer?

New Orleans have been rejecting offers for Trey Murphy but will deal him if they get a large offer. They are looking for 3 first round picks for him. Nobody has offered that yet.

I think he is worth it.

I?m not clear on how much salary would need to be added to a Sam for Trae Murphy trade given TPEs. If doable, what do you think of Sam, Cs 27, Cs 31, (with top 5 protections) and Philly 31 for Murphy?

Or, DW for a straight salary match along with Celtics 27 and 31 firsts.

Ultimately the talent exchange would be JB and DW or Sam for PG and Trae.

Lots of possible iterations on these themes with the two seconds from the JB trade maybe having a little value.

I think you could argue, for example, that Dejoute Murray is a negative value contract. Not as much as George, but he is.

In that case, it might normally take 5 first round picks to both trade for Murphy and get off George's contract, but Murray's contract is probably worth a first rounder.

If we sent both picks we just got, plus two more picks with George for Murray and Murphy, I think they'd accept it.

But I'm just not sure that makes us better over the next year or two. George is a better defender than both of those guys.

After Brown and Leonard fetched two first-round picks in trades, some NBA executives believe that should be the ceiling for a Murphy trade.

Others argue his valuable contract with three years and $87 million remaining of team control could help New Orleans net a third first-round pick.

The more I think about it, I think I would do a White + Hauser + 2-3 picks for Murphy + role player trade, and then next summer you get off George's contract and essentially add another star player and form a Big 3 with Tatum, Murphy and 3rd star with most of Robinson, Queta, Hugo, PP, Baylor still intact.

That said, it seems this team values White a lot so they probably don't want to move him. But his 30M a year contract doesn't look great either and I'd be surprised if he doesn't regress in the coming years too, you might be better off pouncing now and adding a 26 year old Murphy to this core.

Not all first round picks are created equal as well. I would think hard about which ones to give up as the Philly/Clippers 2028 or the 2031 Philly pick could be very very valuable. Would I give up say our own 3 firsts and a swap plus George for Murphy and Zion, it?s tempting.

White >> Murphy.

I like Murphy as JB replacement, but unless we are moving PG13 to get him, I will pass.

Yes. I would also consider trading D White for Trey Murphy. This is mainly due to D White's age (32yo) and expected decline over the next few years. Murphy is younger and has another 10-12 years in front of him. I think it would be worthwhile.

Edit: Oh, Trey is a bit older than I thought. I figured 22-23yo. He is 26 years old. So more like 8-10 years ahead of him.

But you don?t have to move PG to get him. And you get the benefit of a year of PG and the possibility of spending flexibility. And PG13 could be thought of as a Jrue Holiday level player. Not identical of course but solid players who can shoot, pass and defend. Pretty good addition for a year.

You have to move White or PG13 to fit under the hard cap, and White is the best of the three.  If we are getting Murphy, which I am fine with, it needs to be for George.

Thanks!   Sorry - was thinking there was a way he could be had with Hauser plus TPE plus pick boatload. This is why people like me who can?t seem to follow the CBA cap rules should stay out of these discussions at least when it comes to complex salary matching. So I get your point but I?d be ok moving White and the Cs 2 firsts and a second for the younger Murphy.   The move doesn?t improve 26-27 in all likelihood but strengthens their  roster in subsequent years with strategic use of PG salary.

I really like that it would make the team younger, addressing one of the major flaws of the JB trade.

I would try to get Murphy. If this is the team next season...it will be very very unathletic and predominantly jump shooting.

Does Brad have any more moves before the season starts? I think this is basically our team going into the season. We will have at least 1 year of PG. My pipe dream would be to get Bradley Beal for the vet minimum just because he?s tight with JT.
