I wish but I sadly think we will be waiting 1-2 years for that other shoe to drop.

If that?s the case, they should just trade Tatum and go full rebuild. Why would JT want to stick around for that? He wants to be competing for championships. They would be wasting his prime.

Because 1-2 years is nothing. If that prediction became reality, that this team is championship ready in 27-28 or 28-29, that should be music to all our ears.

I feel like Tatum who is going to be 29 next season and just missed almost an entire year with an Achilles tear would strongly disagree. These are his prime years. Every season matters.

I do think we will trade to get under the tax bill, period.

I could see them cutting Banton and giving away Hauser to get out of any tax bill.

I'm hoping we already are under the tax. PG, please please please waive your trade kicker

PH, please, please, please fail your physical.

And then what? He ain't coming back.
We may have to buy Brown out which would be a lot worse.

Maybe Hauser yes. That could happen.
If we get back a nice guard or a protected first round pick I'd be fine with that.

I doubt they'll trade White. His overall game is still very valuable.
I don't see a likely trade target in his salary range.
And I really don't expect them to combine their salaries to bring in another max guy.

I think it was Brian Windhorst who said today that he has heard that the Celtics organisation considers Derrick White to be their most valuable player (for analytical reasons) - if that's true then I think there is zero chance of him being traded.

I don't think they trade him unless things really go south record-wise with the team this season.

Or they will trade him for Zach Levine and a 2nd.  Take your pick.

Mannix seems to think Trey Murphy is their next target. I don't see it though

Scal had an interesting take on draft night. He wondered whether last year was the first sign of a White decline due to age. And if that's the case, he becomes very overpaid the last couple of years of his deal. Keep in mind, this is a guy who cannot reallly create his own shot.

So he speculated that if this is your feeling, now is the time to deal him.

How would this trade be possible, salaries wise? I thought we needed Brown for a Murphy trade?

White has been declining for 3 years.  At least his numbers have been.  I don't expect the cliff next year though. More of the same slight decline.

One I did think of is George plus our 2027 first for Zion, maybe add a couple seconds. Zion is polarizing though I may want to take a chance on a 25 year old with talent verses George. Zion makes 42 million so the trade will work for salary matching though more salaries could be added as the Pelicans would be taking on an additional roughly 13 million in a straight swap.

I believe that George + Hauser for Zion + Murphy works, but not sure if this is something NOP would do.  If they did, the net of all this would be:

Zion, Murphy, 2 firsts
for
George, Hauser

I believe this would put us (keep us) a little over the tax but well under the first apron.  If this was the end result, I would feel a lot better about this.

I believe you need to wait 60 days to combine George's salary with another salary in a trade, so you could still potentially do this prior to the season. It's hard to see the incentive for New Orleans depending on which picks we would trade.

This is correct. PG can be traded by himself immediately. He cannot be traded with other players for 60 days.

Good point on the 60 day period.  I wonder if there is a way to do this as 2 trades.  Do the Murphy deal using Hauser and the TPE first.  That would get NOP far enough under the first apron that they could then do a Zion for George swap.

In any case, NOP only does this if they are totally ready to move on from Zion and see some value in Hauser + George (which I think there is).  If I was NOP, I probably do not do this deal.

The other factor here is this team has exactly one player now who can consistently attack the rim - Tatum. With George they're even more of a jump shooting team.  There are gonna be nights where they're an abomination - when they have about 20% of their 3's and take 50.

It's gonna be brutal to watch. I hope they can grab another scorer somewhere.
