Am I the only one that would seriously consider the Blazer's offer? I think Clingan is the second best prospect/player offered after Mobley. 12/11/2ast/1.7 blocks from a 21 year old 7'2 mobile 280 pound center in 27 mpg on 52/34/68 splits is pretty legit. Throw Sharpe and some firsts on top...I would at least have the conversation.

I love Clingan. I can't imagine POR being willing to trade him for Jaylen. To add Jaylen to Clingan & Avdija, yes. To replace Clingan with Jaylen, no.

I think the writer of that article is grossly over-estimating how much several of those teams are willing to pay in a trade for Jaylen. I don't think we'll see offers like that.

--------------

Gary Washburn had a line there where he said the teams willing to trade for Jaylen and his huge contract are teams playing for Championships. Not teams playing to make the playoffs. You don't pay $60-70 million for a star just to make the playoffs. You do it to win a title. You can get cheaper options elsewhere.

I do think that is generally true. Not absolutely true but generally true.

So does Jaylen make Portland a title contender if Clingan is going in the other direction?

Quote
If they offered a trade package of Shaedon Sharpe, Jerami Grant, Donovan Clingan, and two first-round picks

So their new team would be:

G: Jrue, Scoot
G: Toumani Camara, B Wesley
F: Jaylen, Kris Murray
F: D Avdija,
C: (Timelord?), Yang Hansen

I don't see that as a title contender. That center position is too weak. Clingan is their only dependable center under contract. Yang Hansen has shown some serious potential but he is far from a sure thing and was barely playable last year. If they bring Timelord back, huge injury risk. Then you look at their backup 2s, 3s, 4s. Very little talent there after losing S Sharpe and J Grant.

So a weak center position + weak depth.

Shams just mentioned that Boston is talking to teams mostly in the West and he specifically brought up Portland.

I would take Clingan and Sharpe plus some other players and picks I guess.

To address a few of the posts after mine, I also don't think they would have offered Clingan. But if he was part of the package? Sign me up. I would miss Jaylen though.

I think Clingan is a top 10 center for the next 10-12 years. He could improve and even become a top 5 center.

A serious question in my mind is whether Clingan is better than D Sabonis & A Sengun.

Those guys are more offensive orientated centers. Clingan more defensive orientated. Phenomenal rebounder. Improving offensive game with 3pt range. Is Clingan's two way game more valuable than their offensive orientated games? He won't score as much. He won't get the assists. But he is a game changer defensively and on the boards.

Shams said today on get up that in some cases the c's are looking for 4 first round picks

I'd rather get a young guy like Miller or Murphy along with a few 1st rd picks or maybe a rookie contract big

Yeah, if we are doing a rebuilding / retooling trade ... I would love to get Clingan. Solves our center position for the next 10-12 years.

I hear what you are saying. I just don't like my center's to be poor or even passable defenders. I think to be an elite team with a poor or passable center, they need to be transcendent offensively (aka Jokic.)

Sign me up for the young defensive center over the alterantive any day.

Without diving into individual rumors I think the potential JB trade structure is coming to light.

1st. JB is traded for a Giannis like haul (slightly less assets), this yields some combination of young talent and a cache of picks

2nd. The Cs have a predetermined trade lined up using the parts of the JB haul to land their 5th starter. IE Pritchard, White, Tatum, PLAYER ?, and Queta

3rd. If the 1st trade doesn't land a big man a vet is traded for using Hauser + part of JB trade haul

4th. The Cs retain the balance of the JB haul to use next offseason when they have reset the lux tax and are clear of any cap penalties.

Hypothetical:

1st

    Atlanta gets Brown

Boston gets Daniels, Kuminga, Risacher, and multiple picks/pick swaps

2nd

    Pelicans get Daniels and pick(s)

    Boston gets Trey Murphy

3rd (don't love Sabonis playoff fit but he fits my scenario)

    Kings get Kuminga, Risacher

    Boston gets Sabonis

Celtics Rotation post trade

PG White
SG Hugo/Baylor
SF Tatum
PF Murphy
C  Sabonis

6th PP
7th Queta
8th Hugo/Baylor
9th Hauser
10th Walsh

Maybe we also see a trade that sends out Hauser for more of a combo guard type?

I?d consider an offer including Clingan, Scoot, salary filler Grant? and picks. I don?t have much interest in Sharpe as I think he?s mostly an empty stats player. Deni is probably off the table.

Portland after the trade

Dame
Jrue
Deni
Jaylen
Maybe they bring back Robert Williams.
Sharpe and others off the bench.

I?m not sure I would  be terribly excited about it. I?d rather keep Jaylen.

To my point in the above post I could see a Cs / Portland trade where Clingan, Grant and Sharpe come to the Celtics and Sharpe + Grant and picks are them flipped to NO for Murphy. I really doubt we see a simple 2 team trade where Brown is moved.

I keep forgetting Damian Lillard is on that POR team!

G: D Lillard, Scoot
G: Jrue, B Wesley
F: Jaylen, Kris Murray
F: D Avdija, Toumani Camara
C: (Timelord?), Yang Hansen

That does improve things. Moves Toumani Camara into a bench role. Gives them that forward depth they lacked. So you have Scoot and Toumani as 2 quality reserves and B Wesley & Kris Murry as two passable reserves. That is solid depth 1-4.

Dame makes that an interesting team.

The center position is still a trouble area. Highly reliant on 2 untrustworthy options. Limited FA options. Is that team good enough to contend for a title? Hmm ... I don't think so.

Celtics Rotation post trade

PG Morant
SG White
SF Tatum
PF Murphy
C  Clingan

6th PP
7th Hugo
8th Baylor

10th Garza

Its a major culture/health gamble bringing in Morant but the talent in that starting 5 in undeniable. The other side of things is this really counts on White coming back to form with his 3pt shot as that is not a Morant strong suit. On the fringes Looney could maybe be worked into the deal for big man depth.
