Am I the only one that would seriously consider the Blazer's offer? I think Clingan is the second best prospect/player offered after Mobley. 12/11/2ast/1.7 blocks from a 21 year old 7'2 mobile 280 pound center in 27 mpg on 52/34/68 splits is pretty legit. Throw Sharpe and some firsts on top...I would at least have the conversation.
I love Clingan. I can't imagine POR being willing to trade him for Jaylen. To add Jaylen to Clingan & Avdija, yes. To replace Clingan with Jaylen, no.
I think the writer of that article is grossly over-estimating how much several of those teams are willing to pay in a trade for Jaylen. I don't think we'll see offers like that.
--------------
Gary Washburn had a line there where he said the teams willing to trade for Jaylen and his huge contract are teams playing for Championships. Not teams playing to make the playoffs. You don't pay $60-70 million for a star just to make the playoffs. You do it to win a title. You can get cheaper options elsewhere.
I do think that is generally true. Not absolutely true but generally true.
So does Jaylen make Portland a title contender if Clingan is going in the other direction?
If they offered a trade package of Shaedon Sharpe, Jerami Grant, Donovan Clingan, and two first-round picks
So their new team would be:
G: Jrue, Scoot
G: Toumani Camara, B Wesley
F: Jaylen, Kris Murray
F: D Avdija,
C: (Timelord?), Yang Hansen
I don't see that as a title contender. That center position is too weak. Clingan is their only dependable center under contract. Yang Hansen has shown some serious potential but he is far from a sure thing and was barely playable last year. If they bring Timelord back, huge injury risk. Then you look at their backup 2s, 3s, 4s. Very little talent there after losing S Sharpe and J Grant.
So a weak center position + weak depth.
