Rumor: Celtics exploring trading up from #27

On top of all the Giannis rumors this trade up rumor dropped this morning.


I'm sure this is Stevens performing his due diligence in the case that a player high on the Cs board starts slipping on draft night. Fueled by speculation from Sam Vecnie on " The game theory podcast" that Detriot might entertain a Hauser for #21 deal I will be curious if we see that type of trade on draft night. Could Hauser + #27 start a conversation with the Hornets at #18? Feels unlikely in a strong draft but who knows.

I think we get rumors like this every year.  We don't seem to have a lot of ammunition unless we're trading our 2027 pick, though.  I just don't see Hauser having a lot of value, and I think the team likes Hugo too much to trade him for a crapshoot of a pick.

I guess we could trade our second to potentially get up a spot or two, but I doubt that happens before we see the board.

My question would be who we are targeting if we moved up? I see a lot of guys that I would consider in the same tier from like 13-30. It's possible Brad has identified someone that stands out to him, but I don't see it.

It is difficult to know what value players truly have, but the free agent market on pure shooters like Hauser who are also competent defenders is weak.  There are the Simons types who cannot capably defend.  There is Keon Ellis who regressed to being an average shooter this year.  There are a few players like McCollum and Powell who will probably come in at above the MLE returning to their original team via Bird rights.  But for a competitive team without cap space but with the full MLE, options are limited.  Detroit, particularly, needs shooters in the worst way, and San Antonio would not be upset to acquire one either.

I could see Det or SA very interested in Hauser.  as you mentioned, Det needs shooters and after SA's performance in the Finals, they need someone who can shoot better than their current bunch of bricklaying guards.

Just frustrated with the status quo in Boston. Everyone sees the issues and it does not get fixed. The last 2 playoff runs were unacceptable.
