Was disappointed in the Canada performance though they did get the draw, but Mexico was solid. US was awesome. If they play like that 1st half, they can beat anyone, though it worked really well against the Paraguay game plan. Very fascinated to see how they look against Australia.
I feel confident they'll beat Australia. Turkey will be a really good test for them though, that's a tough team.
I don't think people realize, the USA is ranked 17 in the World Rankings and they have a ton of youth on the squad. Many of the guys are below 28 years old including the main stars. The attack and scoring ability is night and day compared to previous eras. For reference, the US has outright won 8 World Cup matches since 1930, and in the 2022 WC they scored 3 goals in 4 games. They scored 4 last night and honestly could have had more.
Yes, the U.S. still isn't close to the Top-8 teams in the world (France, Spain, Belgium, Brazil, etc.) and the one weakness is certainly the defense (you saw glimpses of it in the lone goal Paraguay scored last night) but overall, they are headed in the right direction if they keep it up on the development front. It's certainly more promising now than it was around 2018 when it was bleak and they didn't even qualify for the WC that year (lost to Trinidad in the game where if they won, they would have made it SMH). First time it's been this promising since the Klinsmann 2014-era.
It's also awesome Balogun picked the U.S. to play for when he had the choice of Nigeria, England and USA. This team has not had someone with the ability of Balogun probably in their history, or at least in a very long time. He has superstar potential and is just 24 years old now. Pulisic is also great, he made a great Paraguay defense at times look foolish last night with the dribbling and passing.
