So, for those keeping track, Mark Walter just banked over $2 billion for owning the Lakers for a year.  Wild times

  • Yup
Lakers sold again

The Los Angeles Lakers are being sold to American businessman Josh Kushner and Bob Iger for a record breaking price over $12 billion, multiple sources told ESPN.

Kushner and Iger were involved in the expansion process in Las Vegas, but a stunning turn, they pivoted to make an aggressive offer to buy the Lakers from Mark Walter, who had purchased a controlling interest in the team from the Buss family last year.

Maybe they can afford some decent uniforms now.
Yup

Heard from a political standpoint, this is baaaad for them and for the league in general.

Dang that franchise being tossed around like a ragged doll these days. Jerry Buss probably be rolling in his grave

Tossed around like a $12 billion rag doll, that is.

Already some wild conspiracy theories floating out there.

Apparently DOJ & SEC are currently investigating Walter and Guggenheim.  Lo & behold, now he is selling the team to the brother of the President's son in law.

My first thought was where is Josh Kushner coming up with his share of the $12B?  How surprised will people be if the Saudis are behind this or something like that.

It is a suspicious seeming transaction on all fronts.  Why wouldn't the Buss family have gotten an offer from Kushner/Iger in the first place?  If they didn't have $10B a year ago, how is it they have $12B now?

I'm guessing that Luka Doncic trade is now making more sense? Given Miriam Adelson owns the Mavs and now Jared Kushner's brother owns the Lakers. Both these new owners also are affiliated with a capital group ties to the Miami Heat. Who cares about conflicts of interests lol. Just some things to quietly ponder about.

Either Mark Walter is in deep waters with the federal investigation or he's just trying to make a quick buck. $2B gain in a short amount of time is insane but the rich always get richer

Isn't this conspiracy theory basically "multi-billionaires know other multi-billionaires"?

Decent return. And with Kushner purchasing I can actually hate the Lakers even more.  Didn't think it was possible.

Great point NG.  LA teams (Dodgers and Lakers anyway) just get easier and easier to hate.

For the accountants on here (if there still are any) what is the capital gains tax on $2B?  Anyway, our treasury can use the revenue.  Deficits are soaring.
