I imagine Risacher will have to compete for minutes at SG alongside Max Christie and Klay Thompson. I wonder if Risacher gets pushed into the starting position there (ahead of Max Christie who is their best two way SG) because Risacher is a former #1 pick. Getting rid of Klay Thompson would be good for Dallas.

Neither Risacher or Max Christie provide any real ball-handling or playmaking at SG. More pressure on the PG (Kyrie). More pressure on Cooper Flagg as a playmaking forward.

I do not think that trade was an option.  No one was excited about picking at the top of that draft, regardless what teams that won the lottery might have said publicly.

The thing for me is sure, they could have taken Sarr or Castle, but there was no sure thing.  Sarr and Castle are better players right now, but not stars.  All of these guys are still young, Risacher may be a later bloomer.  But this comes with the territory of drafting.  You absolutely never know, anyone can become a bust.

I like the move for DAL.  They are getting him for pennies on the dollar as compared to using a #1 pick on him.  Far less at stake for DAL.  Next season is a team option.  Worst case, you just let him walk, best case, he figures it out and you have a decent player you can sign to a multi-year deal.  DAL isn't going to contend anyway.

Thybulle is coming off his three-year, $33 million contract with the Portland Trail Blazers that was originally signed as a restricted free agent offer sheet with the Dallas Mavericks in 2023 that was matched. Luka Doncic was with the Mavericks when Thybulle signed the offer sheet.

I wonder if Luka asked for Thybulle.

They are just bargain-hunting right now, like most teams.  Thybulle has been useful when healthy the last two years, but his availability has been incredibly limited.  I would doubt Doncic has much a say at all on minimum-salary players with a lengthy injury history, and it is not like he has some connection to him.  The last time they appeared in the same game was January 3rd, 2024.  Luka went off for 41 points.  I doubt Thybulle was at the top of his mind.
